COLUSA The upcoming Colusa Farm Show is the oldest such gathering in the Western United States. The three-day event attracts farmers, ranchers, agricul- tural-based businesses and landscape professionals to view more than 300 exhib- itsanddemonstrationsofthe latest state-of-the art equip- ment, and to attend educa- tional seminars. The show, which has of- ten been referred to as "The GranddaddyofFarmShows," will convene 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 3-5 at 1303 10th St., Colusa. Originating in 1966, the show was started as the Sac- ramento Valley Orchard Ma- chineryFair, accordingtothe minutes of the original or- ganizing committee held at the Country Kitchen in Grid- ley. There was a growing de- mand for an organization to take on the task of bring- ing machinery and orchard equipmentforValleygrowers tobeabletoseeandcompare in one place. Now known as TheColusaFarmShow,oper- ated by the 44th Ag District, it has evolved into an exhi- bition showcasing products and services for all aspects of agriculture. The one-time only event has turned into a much-anticipated annual ex- hibition, attended by agricul- turists from across the West- ern U.S. Founding Committee member H.L. Peterson, in an early interview, cred- its the foresight of the 44th District Agricultural Associ- ation for realizing the value of the show and offering its full support. "I grew up coming to the Farm Show every year with my grandfather," said Jon- athan Howard, CEO of the Colusa County Fair and the Colusa Farm Show. "Today this Show is an important resource for the latest infor- mation on government reg- ulations, risk management, water management, etc., in addition to the opportunity to view, compare, and pur- chase equipment, tools and services.Andsomethingnew this year is our Ag Lifestyle Pavilion to shop for items that appeal to our way of life."
