The Tehama Series, which com- prises four events, continues Feb. 8 at Forward Park and Feb. 15 at Dog Island Park in Red Bluff. Ev- eryone is welcome. CYCLING Tehama Series races continue at Trainor Park Staff report COTTONWOOD » The north Te- hama County welcome sign on Interstate 5 has been completely revamped. The Red Bluff-Tehama County Chamber of Commerce along with Cal Fire and Sierra Pacific Industries partnered to replace and upgrade the county sign at the Shasta County line on I-5. The new welcome sign pro- vides added information for visi- tors and guests for tourist infor- mation as well as events taking place in Red Bluff and Tehama County. The daily traffic count ex- ceeds 40,000 at this junction of I-5 and the new sign will pro- vide useful information for all travelers. The previous sign, which car- ried the slogan "Recreation Un- limited," had split and fallen down. A similar sign is posted along the northbound lanes of I-5 just south of Corning near the county line. Mark Lawrence Brewer, 55, is next expected in Tehama County Superior Court on Feb. 9. He remained in custody. Brewer faces two charges of attempted murder, two charges of assault with a deadly weapon, corporal in- jury of a spouse or cohabitant, first-degree residential bur- glary and multiple special al- legations, including domestic violence, great bodily injury of an elderly victim and use of a deadly weapon. Tehama County Sheriff's deputies on Dec. 27 responded to West View Way in Cotton- wood after a 911 caller reported someone was trying to kick in her door, according to a Te- hama County Sheriff's Office press release. Candi Brewer, 53, said her soon to be ex-husband entered the residence and began strik- ing her mother, according to the release. Deputies found Candi Brewer covered in blood and learned that she and her 74-year-old mother, Barbara Knight, had been struck in the head and up- per body with a hammer. Knight was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with skull fractures. Mark Brewer was not lo- cated at the time, but deputies that evening found his disabled truck at the intersection of Big Pines and Quail Ridge roads, according to the release. Deputies also reportedly saw him run into a wooded area, but were unable to find him at the time. He eventually lost control of a 1997 Toyota Camry that had been associated with him and crashed into a telephone pole in the front yard of a residence on Balls Ferry Road about a quar- ter-mile north of Webb Road in Shasta County. He suffered moderate inju- ries in the crash and was taken to an area hospital, officials said.
