"He battles us hard and challenges as well as any goalie in the league," Sharks forward Tommy Wingels said. "He really comes out and takes the space away." Here are five other things to watch in the Pacific Divi - sion series: hOMe-iCe aDVantaGe » The home team has won 16 of the past 17 games in this series, including all seven in last year's playoffs won by Los Angeles. This time it's the Sharks who have the home- ice advantage, although the Kings did win 1-0 in San Jose on Jan. 27. "It doesn't matter where you play," Quick said. "You're playing a game. You've got your 20 play - ing against their 20. What- ever is going on around you shouldn't be your concern." BaD BLOOD » There is plenty of bad blood between these teams stemming from their proximity in California and two playoff series the past three years that each in- cluded suspensions for ex- cessive hits. It only grew when Kings captain Dustin Brown sidelined San Jose's Tomas Hertl with a knee- on-knee hit in December that sidelined the rookie for more than three months. Hertl is looking for payback by eliminating the Kings. "I t' s pe rso na l, " He rt l said. "It's L.A." Line COMBinatiOnS » An injury to Marty Havlat and Raffi Torres' suspension forced the Sharks to use Joe Pavelski as a top six wing in last year's series, sapping the team of for - ward depth as they got no goals from their bottom two lines. Pavelski spent most of the stretch run in that role this year on a line with Joe Thornton and Brent Burns, but the Sharks are at their best when Pavelski plays third-line center, creat - ing major mismatches for the opposition. With Hertl healthy, the Sharks could move Pavelski back down and reunite Hertl with Burns and Thornton. GaBOriK'S GOaLS » The deadline acquisition of Marian Gaborik provided a needed spark for Los An- geles' offense. Gaborik had five goals and 11 assists in 19 games as he formed an ef- fective duo with Anze Kopi- tar. That production helped the Kings go from 27th in the league in goal-scoring before the deal to 14th after the trade. "I think one thing that stands out is everyone knew him as a goal scorer and how fast he is, but his playmaking ability is really good," Brown said. SPe Ci a L t ea M S » T he Sharks were the best team at staying out of the pen- alty box this season, fac- ing a league-low 219 short- h a nde d ch a nce s . T he Kings were on the other end of that spectrum, going short-handed 296 times, more than all but two other teams. If the Sharks get more power-play chances, they will need to convert. They scored four power- play goals in their three playoff wins against Los Angeles last year but went 0-for-12 in the four losses. AP Sports Writer Greg Beacham in El Segundo con - tributed to this report. Sharks FrOM PaGe 1 ELiSE AmENdOLA — ThE ASSOCiATEd PrESS Boston Celtics center Kelly Olynyk (41) goes up to shoot against Washington Wizards forward Nene hilario (42) during the second half Wednesday in Boston. The Associated Press BOStOn » Bradley Beal scored 27 points and the Wa s h i n g t o n W i z a r d s clinched the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference with a 118-102 win over the Boston Celtics on Wednes - day night. The Wizards will be fac- ing Chicago in their first playoff appearance since 2008. Trevor Booker scored 20 points, Marcin Gortat had 15 with 10 rebounds, and John Wall 15 points for Washing - ton, which finished the reg- ular season 44-38. It's the most wins for the franchise since 45 in 2004-05. The Wizards jumped over Brooklyn and into fifth place after the Nets lost in Cleveland. Boston sat injured guards Rajon Rondo and Jerryd Bayless, and injured for - wards Kris Humphries and Jared Sullinger, finishing with a 25-57 record. It was the club's worst since going 24-58 in 2006-07, the year before acquiring Kevin Gar - nett, Ray Allen and winning its 17th NBA title. CaVaLierS 114, netS 85 » Brooklyn coach Jason Kidd sat his starters for the play- offs and the Nets closed the regular season with a loss that dropped them to the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Although the Nets could have clinched the Eastern Conference's No. 5 spot with a win, Kidd elected to rest Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Joe Johnson, Deron Wil - liams and Shaun Livings- ton, who spent the night on the bench as the world's highest-paid cheerleading squad. Kidd also limited the minutes of key reserves and used only seven players. KniCKS 95, raPtOrS 92 » New York finished its dis- appointing season with a victory and Toronto blew a 21-point lead but earned the No. 3 seed in the East - ern Conference playoffs. Toronto will host the Brooklyn Nets, who fell to the No. 6 seed, in its playoff opener Saturday. BOBCatS 91, BULLS 86 (Ot) » Kemba Walker scored eight of his 22 points in overtime to help Charlotte defeat Chi - cago. Joakim Noah finished with 14 points and 13 re- bounds for Chicago, and Carlos Boozer added 14 points and 11 rebounds. PaCerS 101, MaGiC 86 » Ra- sual Butler and Chris Cope- land each scored 19 points as Indiana rested key play- ers and still cruised. The Eastern Confer- ence's top seed ended the season winning three of four to shake off a nasty late-sea- son slump. The Pacers will open the playoffs against eighth-seed Atlanta. 76erS 100, heat 87 » Thad- deus Young scored 20 points, and Michael Carter- Williams had 12 in the fi- nal game of his impressive rookie campaign for Phila- delphia. It was Philadelphia's sec- ond win of the season over the two-time defending NBA champions, though Miami was that in name only Wednesday. haWKS 111 , BUCKS 103 » Mike Scott scored 17 points and Atlanta ended the reg- ular season with a win over the Bucks, hours after Mil- waukee owner Herb Kohl announced he was selling his team.
