2A – Daily News – Friday, March 11, 2011 Community people&events Chorale preparing for Memorial Day concert The Red Bluff Masterworks Chorale is rehearsing on Monday evenings at the Red Bluff Presbyterian Church on the corner of Hickory and Jefferson streets in downtown Red Bluff. Rehearsals begin at 6:45 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. Now in its 15th year the chorale con- tinues to grow in number and music ability. The Christmas holiday concerts were presented to standing room only audiences at the Monastery in Vina and the First Christian Church in Red Bluff. The non-auditioned group of local volunteer singers is preparing music for the annual Memorial Day Weekend Celebration Concert. This concert program is filled with songs that honor God, the United States of America and the men and women who served or are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces today. The concert will open with a beautiful arrangement of America, the Beautiful. This will be followed by The Star-Spangled Banner. Also on the program are the students from Community Christian School in Red Bluff. The students will join with the Masterworks Chorale to honor the military personnel with a medley of the theme songs from each branch of the service. The students will then offer a song of thanks to the soldiers. The Red Bluff Masterworks Orchestra will accompany the Chorale and will be featured in their own presentation of The Stars and Stripes Forever March by John Phillip Sousa. To become a singer in the Red Bluff Mas- terworks Chorale call Mark Franklin at 527- 4203. Singers of high school age and rising are encouraged to join in this choral ensemble that seeks to bring good choral music to our com- munity. More than 70 residents of Tehama County decided it was time to get active, get in shape and lose some weight by registering for Shape Up Tehama, a free lifestyle remodeling program that kicked off March 5. Registration was held at Tehama Family Fitness Center and included photographs, circumference mea- surement, weight and body fat analysis done by personal trainers. This program was designed by gen- eral manager Troy Lalaguna. The goal of this program is to inspire the community to shape up and live a healthier, happier life. The 15-week weight loss competi- tion with some amazing prizes ranging form annual memberships from TFFC, comedy show tickets from Rolling Hills Casino, dinning gift certificates from the Riverside, make over packages from Wink and more will used competition to moti- vate participants. Complete Two Bridges, Work Started On Others Two highway bridges have just been completed in Tehama county and work is about to started on two more ... The Hart Construction Company of Gerber received $13,636 for the new Brewery creek bridge. The other bridge finished was the Red Bank creek bridge on Ridge Road. C.E. McCartney of this city had the contract for $3,200. It was removed from the state highway two miles south of Red Bluff to its present location. McCartney has contract for the new bridge over the south fork of Reeds creek on Johnson Road. County Engineer W.F. Luning is working on plans for a bridge to span Elder creek on the state highway just south of Gerber. —Daily News, March 11, 1921 Kevin Benson Sr. from American Legion Post #167 presents a check to members of Venture Crew #905.The American Legion Post #167 generously donated $150 to Venturing Crew #905. These funds will be used to purchase books and uniforms for its youth members. This crew is partnered with Tehama County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue and is a new crew based in Red Bluff.The Venturing Program is a part of the Boy Scouts of America and is open to young men and women ages 14 to 20.The crew meets 7-8:30 p.m. Mondays at the First Southern Baptist Church, 585 Kimball Road in Red Bluff. They will be learning basic Search and Rescue Techniques, First Aid, Wilderness Survival, Camping, Swimming, Hiking, Repelling and Geocaching skills. COMMUNITY CLIPS Spelling bee Fourth-grader Trinity Martin, won first place in the Annual Jack- son Heights Spelling Bee, with fifth-grader Ricky Ornelas as alter- nate. Martin’s next competition will be the Record Searchlight Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday at Sequoia Middle School in Red- ding. The winner from the Record Searchlight Spelling Bee will be able to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. Neighborhood watch Martin Richfield Neighborhood Watch will meet at 6 p.m. March 14 at the Richfield Fire Station.
