2B Daily News – Wednesday, January 29, 2014 BULL & GELDING SALE Beef Ambassador candidates The Tehama County CattleWomen are looking for beef spokespersons for 2014. Both a senior and a junior Beef Ambassador will be selected at the Tehama County CattleWomen's 17th annual Beef Ambassador contest Saturday, March 8 at the Tehama County Farm Bureau meeting room. Scholarships will be awarded to the Beef Ambassadors, with the senior ambassador receiving a $1,000 scholarship and the junior ambassador receiving $500. The scholarships will be given at the end of the ambassadors' year. The deadline for entering the contest is Feb. 7. Application forms are available at the 4-H office, 1754 Walnut St. in Red Bluff, from county high school FFA advisors or by contacting co-chairwomen Carrie Rohr at 526-1169 or Kari Dodd at 736-8389. More information is available by visiting www.nationalbeefambassador.org. The winners will be the youth spokespersons for the beef industry throughout the coming year. All youth, both male and female, are encouraged to participate in the Beef Ambassador contest. Contestants do not need an agriculture background to enter the contest. Senior Beef Ambassador contestants must be 17 years of age, but not older than 20 by Sept. 1. The Junior Beef Ambassador must be 12 years of age, but not older than 16 on the same date. An informational meeting for contestants will be held at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Tehama County Farm Bureau office. The contestants will be required to give a written response about a negative media article regarding beef. They will have a personal interview, a media interview, do a consumer presentation promoting beef products and answer questions from the audience. County winners will advance to the California Beef Ambassador Competition to be held April 25 in San Jose. The new ambassadors will join a long list of youth who have done an exceptional job of telling the beef story. Taylor Collins is the Senior Beef Ambassador. Junior Beef Ambassador is Danielle Mueller. They represented the beef industry at schools throughout the county, at farm and educational days and other CattleWomen and Cattlemen functions.
