Also welcoming Mason is brother Adien Overall. Math Festival Jackson Heights Elementary School received a $1,000 grant from the California Math Council to bring a CMC Math Festival to the school. With the help of the Site Council and Parent Club, all 546 students will get to participate in the festival Jan. 29 and have the opportunity to bring their parents back that night and show them what they know. The festival is provided by Paul Giganti of UC Berkeley and travels across the US to many schools. The Tehama County Health Services Agency - Mental Health Division extends an invitation to all interested community members to attend a Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) Stakeholders' Meeting. The agency is preparing its annual update and threeyear plan and, as part of that process, welcomes your thoughts and comments on progress to date and plans for the future related to the use of MHSA funding. PAL Martial Arts students earn awards 90 Four Tehama County PAL Martial Arts students trained for and competed in a karate tournament in Redding on Saturday, Jan. 25. The tournament was hosted by Scott Halsey's Kenpo Karate and was held at Shasta High School. Hundreds of competitors were there, mostly children under 18 years. They all competed in several categories mostly set by age and experience. Brooke Burkhart took 2nd place in her age group, Blake Burkhart took 3rd in his in his, Wesley Pruitt, Jr., 4th in his and Austin Raglin, 5th in his. In each of their competitions there were at least six or seven competitors — in Pruitt's there were 11. This was their first tournament. The PAL program's core art is Jujutsu for self defense but is adding the sport of Tournament Karate. Students will be able to train in either style for their belts from now on. These four have already earned their first belts in both styles.
