Expect More Tehama is grateful for the energy and activities that have taken place in 2010 and looks forward to a fantastic, action packed 2011. Over the past few months, Expect More and College Options have been on the go, working to raise expectations around higher education for our students. Here is a sam- pling of some of that activity: • Expect More Tehama discus- sion with the Red Bluff Rotary on "Educational Options for Tehama County Parents" • Facilitated workshop with Berren- dos 8th graders on culture change • School board meeting presenta- tions at Lassen View and Evergreen • Evergreen School Board adopts Expect More Resolution • Meeting with Principal Rich Gif- ford at Richfield Elementary • Working with Social Services on gauging GED stats with their clients • Presentation made to Masters of Public Administration class at CSU Chico • Continued to work with the 9th grade College Success classes at Corn- ing High by providing workshops cov- ering the u-planit.org and Reality Check websites, administered a VARK learning styles assessment, and an introduction to college systems and degrees • Continued to offer lunchtime online college applica- tion assistance on a weekly basis at Red Bluff and Los Molinos • Presented higher education workshops designed specifically for students in the ROP Careers with Children and Medical courses at Red Bluff High Kathy Garcia Kate Grissom • Offered an after school online col- lege application assistance workshop at Los Molinos with the counselor • Reviewed student’s college appli- cations and personal statement essays prior to submission at each campus as requested • Represented College Options at Tehama County 8th grade Career Day; disseminated an A-G planning work- sheet • Extended invitation to high school counselors to attend a UC Admissions Training at the McConnell Founda- tion, presented by UC Berkeley and UC Davis • Extended invitation to high school students to attend a UC Berkeley admissions information night at Enterprise High School • Working with Maywood Middle School to bring college representatives to their 8th grade college and career fair • Offered an evening workshop for Hispanic families at Red Bluff High regarding the col- lege going process • Ongoing Facebook posts and newspaper column presence • Expect More Tehama presents at Region 2 County Superintendents meeting on December 10. • Expect More presents December 15 to Tehama County Department of Education Board Kathy Garcia is Business Services and Marketing manager of Job Training Center. Bowlers medal at Special Olympics Courtesy photo Tehama County Special Olympics Bowlers from Tehama County travelled to Oroville to compete in the Regional Tournament on Dec. 4. After a one-year layoff due to budget cuts, the bowlers were anxious to get back into the roll of tournament play. They bowl all year for the chance to go to this one tournament.Twelve bowlers qualified but only 11were able to make the trip. Collision • Antonia Martinez, 63, of Red Bluff was taken to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital with minor injuries fol- lowing a collision at 12:50 p.m. Thursday on Rinehart, Allen Ross, Shirley Saun- ders, Robert Sibley, Roberta Squires, Don Smith, Wanda Stin- nett, Lois Sutton and Adrian Tayler. Highway 99E, south of Cone Grove Road. Mar- tinez was driving north on 99E about 45 mph when for unknown rea- sons she drifted into the southbound lane where her vehicle grazed that driven by Robert Thomp- son, 77, of Red Bluff who was driving south on 99E, about 50 mph. Both vehicles had mod- erate damage. The road- way was not blocked by the collision and both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
