The suggested donation for seniors 60 and older is $2.75. For those guests under the age of 60, the guest charge is $6. A donation is not a requirement for you to receive a meal if you qualify for the program. Reservations must be made a minimum of one day in advance by calling 527-2414. Christmas brings memories Christmas 2010, I will have cele- brated a bit over one-half a hundred Christmas seasons. It will always be the Christmas Season to me, not the Winter Fest, the Holiday Festival, Solstice Season, Gift Buying Sea- son, or the Excuse to overspend, over drink, over socialize Season. I can’t imagine how people have so little to do as to lambaste the phrasing of wishing people the best there is for anyone. Christmas is Christmas no matter how some would like to mask the real mean- ing of this occasion. Christmas would not exist without the coming of Jesus Christ. Good in the world comes from the Creator. All cele- brations of joy originate with the love of God. A few years back, a dear friend cautioned me about becoming too political in my column. Yes, Louise I do remember what you said. This is an issue where I feel I have earned the right to object to just being a senior age. I cannot stand by and let a few Scrooges ruin a perfectly good season by saying that we can’t mention anything akin to religion. I also remember a former editor telling me that I hadn’t achieved the ultimate in writing until I had made someone mad at me. There will be some, who will be mad at me, of that I am sure. Do I like the idea of anyone being angry at me: No, but my biggest concern is that the Creator isn’t disappoint- ed in me so I will vote for leaving the Christmas Crèche scenes in public even on public agency grounds. I will vote for continuing to call the breaks from school, Christmas break and Easter break. I will continue greeting people with Merry Christmas and where appro- priate, Happy Hanukkah. To all those who are spending energy and time trying to eradicate any men- tion of religion in our society today, I say "Get a life" preferably one that promises a reward in eternity. There are so many traditions of the Christmas Season that have fall- en by the wayside. One that was always looked forward to in the old days was the Christmas letters from kinfolk. Sarah J. Tolen (to) Malisa Storm The most welcome surprise gift came to me the week before Christ- mas from another descendant of the Isaac Tolen and Sarah Jane Cline Tolen family. She is a great grand daughter of Mildred Tolen, the youngest sister of Melissa Tolen Storm, my great grandmother. This three generation down, recently found relative sent me the cultural- ly right letters of Great, Great Grandmother Sarah J. Tolen. Almost no information had been available to my mother’s generation about this branch of the family. There are grammatical errors and deviations in spelling that I left in the letters in order to capture the real feeling of Sarah Tolen’s time and personality. The unrevised let- ters showed even greater insight into the person she really was, they were edited for the understanding of today’s readers. It is apparent that Sarah spelled her daughter’s name, Malisa instead of the accept- ed spelling of Melissa, for that rea- son, I left the different spellings intact. What a wonderful Christmas gift the letters have been to me, many times more meaningful than an expensive purchased item. Merry Christmas to all!
