Arts Council Grant Lifts Off Downtown Public Art Project Downtown Fayetteville will be playing host next year to an array of public art pieces with help from a grant from the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County. From April to September next year, visitors and guests will be able to view an icon selected to represent Fayetteville and individually painted by local artists. This project will be developing over the next several months, including icon selection, artist development and more. One of the best features of this public art project is each icon is unique to the community. Each icon will be adopted by a local artist who will create their own masterpiece. A walkable tour will include a map of icon locations, interactive features - such as QR codes - and programming like scavenger hunts and art contests to get everyone engaged in exploration. The project is designed to increase tourism to Fayetteville and Cumberland County; increase visibility of our museums and parks, side streets and more; showcase our local artists in a highly visible and creative way; unify our community with an icon and tell the story about the icon; and to raise money for downtown revitalization. The purpose of Project Support Grants is to increase opportunities for access to arts, science, cultural and historical programming in Cumberland County. Project Support Grants may be awarded to non-profit agencies in Cumberland County who demonstrate financial and administrative stability. For more information about the Downtown Fayetteville Public Art project or to get involved, please call Jami McLaughlin at (910) 433-1599 or email jmclaughlin@ci.fay.nc.us.
