F CUS On "Run United" Zombie Fun Run City Council Approves Resolution To Increase Oversight Of Fayetteville PWC City Council voted 7 to 3 to increase its oversight of the Fayetteville Public Works Commission (PWC) departments at its bimonthly meeting on Monday, September 23. The Council voted to adopt a resolution to promote coordination of policies and practices between the City and Fayetteville PWC, streamline support functions and identify and realize potential cost savings. "This is an important step forward as the Council reaffirms its commitment to the City Charter and reinforces its oversight and policy responsibilities inherent in its role as the governing body of the City of Fayetteville," said Mayor Tony Chavonne. This year, "Slow and Steady" may win the race… but it won't protect you from the zombies. On Saturday, Oct. 26, the Fayetteville Police Department and the City of Fayetteville are sponsoring "Run United," a Zombie 5K Fun Run and Walk to benefit the United Way of Cumberland County. Participants will wind their way through Haymount as they avoid roaming hordes of zombies. Participants can pre-register for the event by visiting www.active.com, www.runsignup.com or www.prerace.com and enter the keyword "Run United" (online processing fee applies). The registration fee is $25 and runners who pre-register will receive a T-shirt. T-shirts are also available during same day registration, while supplies last. Registration starts at 5 p.m. and the run will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Honeycutt Park, located at 352 Devers St. There will be door prizes, goody bags, medals and a costume contest. ® Come out and help support the United Way as we run, from the zombies, for a good cause. The resolution stems from a six-month alignment study by consultant DavenportLawrence to identify areas for cooperation and increased efficiencies between the City and Fayetteville PWC. The City engaged DavenportLawrence in February 2013 to evaluate opportunities to align services, reduce redundancies and improve efficiencies between the City and Fayetteville PWC to better serve the interests of local citizens and customers. The newly adopted Resolution, which states that "the actions set out in this Resolution are in the best interest of the City of Fayetteville and its citizens," includes the following provisions: • City Council will reinforce its oversight and policy responsibilities inherent in its role as the governing body of Fayetteville PWC • The City will manage the treasury role of Fayetteville PWC as defined in the City Charter • Fayetteville PWC's legal, communications and branding initiatives will be coordinated with those of the City • Cost plans and Service Level Agreements will be revised for existing joint services between the City and Fayetteville PWC • The City and Fayetteville PWC will continue to study support services to identify efficiencies.
