F CUS On Fayetteville Has a Television Station! Rain Barrels at Mazarick Park: Helping Stormwater Quality and Quantity Citizens can watch and enjoy City government programming now by tuning into FAYTV7 on Time Warner Cable Channel 7. Residents can stay informed about City services through bulletin boards and videos. City Council meetings are shown live and through rebroadcasts during the week. The City of Fayetteville Stormwater Division has teamed up with Mazarick Park to promote rain harvesting and rain barrel use. Last summer, Mazarick Park, which is operated by Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Recreation, and the Stormwater Division worked together to install a rain barrel to demonstrate to homeowners how to properly set up a rain barrel, as well as to post an educational sign that describes the benefits and uses of harvested rain water. Mazarick Park uses the water from the rain barrel to water nearby landscape plants and flowers. Cumberland County Soil and Water District donated the rain barrel that is now being used. The station is a valuable tool for the City to engage and inform the citizenry about City departments. The channel is a work in progress and came to fruition as the result of Time Warner Cable ceasing operations of channel 7 on July 1 as part of State law. Be sure to check out the channel on TV and read about the station's YouTube channel below. Subscribe to the City's YouTube Channel! Subscribe to our YouTube channel at www.faytv7.com. Watch all of our programming on-demand at your convenience. Keep up with what's going on in your local government! Rogers Drive Closure Begins Rogers Drive will be closed from Scotty Hill Road to Shamrock Drive for a sewer main replacement, which started Aug. 26. The contractor anticipates the project will take approximately two to four weeks to complete. Rain water harvesting has become very popular in the past few years, due to prolonged drought conditions and rising utility bills. Rain barrels are above-ground water storage tanks that capture stormwater runoff from rooftops using the gutter system to route the water into the barrel. When rain water is captured using a rain barrel, it reduces the amount of stormwater runoff generated by a rain event. This reduces the burden on the drainage system. It also lowers the potential for pollutants to enter the drainage system, which protects water quality. The rain water that is harvested is then used to water nearby gardens. If you are interested in learning more about rain barrels, and to see a rain barrel in use, head on over to Mazarick Park and check it out.
