page 3 | University of Missouri T his year, Bev Wood Nichols '75 received the Alumnae Appreciation Award at National Convention. This award recognizes an alumna who has provided sustained and outstanding service to Alpha Chi Omega faithfully and unselfishly through the years. Described as "dedicated and loyal to all things Alpha Chi," Bev is "a devoted sister, generous with her time, talent and treasure. She is practical, level-headed and a mentor to many. She shares her knowledge and experience with her sisters to make a difference in making Alpha Chi greater each year, be it at the collegiate chapter or with the alumnae chapter." Bev has served Alpha Chi for more than 46 years as a member of the Alpha Nu Local House Corporation (LHC) Board and currently serves as vice president. She has served in every office and multiple times as president, overseeing numerous renovations to the chapter house. The LHC was recognized for the Gold Level and certified during her terms as president. Bev also served on the AN Centennial Committee and helped establish the Centennial Scholarship for the chapter. Active in her local alumnae chapter, Mu Mu of Greater Kansas City, Bev has held numerous roles spanning decades. She is currently serving in her third two-year term as president. Mu Mu has received the Continuing Excellence Award several times during her tenure, along with individual awards in 2022 and 2024. Previously, she served as vice president of finance, a role she held for over 20 years, and as vice president of membership. She has received the Mu Mu Woman of the Year award twice, once for her work as treasurer in modernizing systems and again for her work as president to keep Mu Mu members connected via Zoom, especially during the pandemic. Bev strives to keep all members, across all age groups, connected and valued. She reinstituted the Young Alum group and the Mom/Tot group after the pandemic, and those groups are growing and bringing new connections among sisters. Bev is a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Leadership Circle and a Foundation Partner, supporting the Foundation for over 35 years. She was a campaign influencer for the introduction of the Common Bond, Uncommon Impact campaign and a member of the Foundation Chapter Impact Team for Alpha Nu during the Centennial. "Bev Nichols is the quintessential AXO," her nominator wrote. "Bev steps up to do whatever job necessary for the collegiate and alumnae chapter. Whether it's big projects, maintenance issues, officer training, submitting reports, Bev does not back away from responsibility." The nomination continued, "Bev values the importance of volunteering for our organization and stresses the contribution that can help everyone. She is a caring individual that inspires good character when communicating with sisters. She maintains responsibility, is respectful and honest and cherishes the rituals of Alpha Chi Omega." The final comments from her nominator included these observations: "Bev has extraordinary organizational skills. She can quickly access the situation, decide upon a course of action and then make certain the needed action happens. Essentially, she has superb leadership skills. She is a hard worker and listens before speaking her opinion. I would call her faithful and unselfish to the ideals of Alpha Chi Omega. Bev lives what it means to be Life Loyal. Bev is one of the rare jewels who has shown such long, faithful, unselfish and dedicated volunteer service to benefit the greater good of the fraternity, whether it's a chapter house at Mizzou or the alumnae chapter in KC."
