Alpha Chi Omega, University of Missouri P.O. Box 442100 Lawrence, KS 66044-2100 Address Service Requested Lyre Notes Alpha Nu Chapter of ΑΧΩ at the University of Missouri f f f I was drawn to Alpha Chi Omega because of the authentic, genuine and down-to-earth conversations I had with the women in the chapter. From the beginning, they made me feel like I had found a place where I could truly belong. During my time as an undergraduate, I served as vice president of education (now called VP new member education) and was part of the Chapter Relations and Standards Board, along with other committees. My favorite memories include homecoming (especially when Alpha Nu won in 2009!), initiation week and the countless hours we spent together during sisterhood week and other projects. Those long nights built a strong sisterhood and lasting friendships! I graduated with a bachelor's degree in nutritional sciences and a minor in human development and family studies. My positive experience at Mizzou led me to pursue a master's degree in higher education. Currently, I serve as the director of advising and retention at Minneapolis College, overseeing various student services and strategic initiatives. As an undergraduate, I didn't fully grasp the significant role that alumnae and advisors play in strengthening the chapter. Since graduating, my appreciation for Alpha Chi Omega's impact has only grown. The organization continues to provide leadership experience and skills that members can apply to a multitude of careers and volunteer opportunities. The Alpha Chi Omega experience is not just for four years; it's for life. Since graduating, I've engaged with Alpha Chi through various roles on advisory boards and specialist positions, like chapter advancement specialist and risk management specialist. I've also facilitated programs such as the Leadership Academy and Capstone. These experiences have deepened my connection to the organization and have been valuable in my professional career and nonprofit leadership roles. I stay in touch with many sorority sisters, from those in my own member class to others I meet through volunteer experiences. Carrie Dent Gonzalez '07 and I were initiated together, lived together and served on the executive board together. We now live just 15 minutes apart, have both served on the Alpha Lambda advisory board, and our kids play together regularly. Merry lives in Plymouth, Minnesota, with her husband, Geoff, and their daughter, Hazel. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, working on house projects and being outdoors. She is also actively involved in the Minneapolis community through the Junior League of Minneapolis, where she recently completed a two-year term as president. If you'd like to get in touch, you can send her an email at schmitt. merry@gmail.com. It was so special to have many generations of Alpha Nus in one room to celebrate this milestone." Did this newsletter not make it to your preferred address? Are you preparing to move?
