8A Daily News – Saturday, July 27, 2013 Religion Faith LIFT Tehama gearing up Programs, projects, and good ideas are often found knocking on the doors of the 'Faith-Based community' in hopes of receiving favor and resources needed to accomplish their purposes. Unfortunately, the return promised from such shared ventures is often in the form of 'goodwill', or simply just the knowledge they 'helped someone in need'. On Nov. 15 LIFT Tehama changes that outcome. This is not just a day for people to gather information or get referrals, but rather a day for people to make life changes and get connected to essential services. LIFT Tehama is an event that combines several great projects together in one place on one day. Recycle the Warmth, Project Homeless Connect and Tehama County Continuum of Care will again join forces to bring help and hope to those in need with a wide variety of tangible resources. This will be the fourth year for the Project Homeless Connect, and over 25 years for Recycle the Warmth. DMV will provide free California IDs while other agencies will offer medical and dental, education opportunities, hot meals, showers & haircuts, warm blankets, clothes and more, all in one location, to those in Tehama County who are in need. Free transportation will be provided by TRAX. There will even be services for pets. Great stories come out of events such as these. At last year's LIFT Tehama, we learned the story of Jacob, who had almost literally walked out of his shoes; they were falling apart. He was paired up with some good, heavy-duty shoes, a coat, and a sleeping bag. We also witnessed the amazing transformation of a simple hair cut. Birth certificates, deposit assistance, and medical checkups armed folks with hope for a better future. It took dozens of volunteers to help hundreds of people and we want to do more. What do you have to offer? Can you share your hope in God who loves them? Do you have a service that could help eases someone's hardship? How about a willingness to fold clothes, or help guide folks through the maze of services? Perhaps something unique that hasn't been offered yet? What can you do? How can you help? Let us know by contacting Community Action Agency, phone: 530-528-4012, email: imiller@tcdss.org, or Wayne Owensby, phone: 530-526-0382 e-mail: wayneowensby@gmail.com. &Worship Justified I want to paint a picture, from the Bible, of how we are without Jesus Christ in our lives. Ephesians 4:17-19 says, "...in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness." Titus 3:3 says, "For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another." None of us had hope. We were totally alienated from the life of God. Yet, in God's gracious love, He made a way. He created us for relationship with Himself. It says in Ephesians 1:4, "Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love." How could He bring us from being alienated to being holy and without blame? It was done on the cross. Jesus died in our stead. Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." When we receive Him as our Savior, we are justified. We receive His righteousness. Romans 5:1 says, "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." A working definition of justified is to stand before God in His righteousness. An important key to overcoming areas of defeat in our lives is a clear understanding of justifica- tion. It is foundational truth that very ground that Jesus won for us will set us free. Hindu statesman Rajan Zed will deliver the invocation from ancient Sanskrit scriptures before the City Council. After Sanskrit delivery, he then will read the English translation of the prayer. Sanskrit is considered a sacred language in Hinduism and root language of Indo-European languages. Zed, who is the President of Universal Society of Hinduism, will recite from Rig-Veda, the oldest scripture of the world still in common use, besides lines from Upanishads and Bhagavad-Gita (Song of the Lord), both ancient Hindu scriptures. He plans to start and end the prayer with "Om", the mystical syllable containing the universe, which in Hinduism is used to introduce and conclude religious work. Zed is a global Hindu and interfaith leader, who besides taking up the cause of religion worldwide, has also raised huge voice against the apartheid faced by about 15-million Roma (Gypsies) in Europe. Bestowed with World Interfaith Leader Award; Zed is Senior Fellow and Religious Advisor to Foundation for Religious Diplomacy, Spiritual Advisor to National Association of Interchurch & Interfaith Families, etc. Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal. There are about 3 million Hindus in USA. Tehama County Church Directory HOYT-COLE CHAPEL OF THE FLOWERS 816 Walnut St. - Red Bluff FD 652 Red Bluff....
