There has been a rumor that Amish quilts made a very long time ago were often made with a small imperfection by placing a scrap of fabric that didn't quite match inconspicuously in a patchwork quilt to give it "identity." I own such a quilt, the pieces being cut out by my Maternal great, great, grandmother and pieced together by my great grandmother, Agnes Pearson. My ancestors were not Amish more probably they were Quakers. The quilt is hand made with the small pink blocks on a white background being stitched together with tiny, irregular stitches. The quilt has one small "red" block in the last group of blocks. I wondered why this deviation from the pink, in doing some research I talked to a quilter who told me that the block differing from the rest sent the following message; "God is perfect, man is not!" It makes sense to me, as I look up at the quilt hanging from the quilt rod; I find my eyes searching out the nonconspicuous red square. As my eyes center on this message from long ago I am nudged into at least a few seconds of critical thinking in regard to my own walk of faith. Invariably I am reminded of the Creator who is with us through the tough times as well as the good times. Though sadness visits us, hope prevails. 90 years ago... Bootleggers Admit Guilt Before Gans cans — they are red to symbolize the heart — decorate and distribute them the last two weeks in June. Money has been collected in the amount of $8,000 and the total may be enough to purchase up to 220 tons of food. Eighteen different food organizations will be distributing the food during the cool weather months and be of assistance to those with food needs throughout Tehama County, Woods said. Red Bluff and Tehama County work together on a number of projects to help those in need and that is why Soroptimist International of Red Bluff is proposing this county-wide challenge, should this program be repeated in 2014. This will be another way for the Service Clubs of Tehama County support local residents.
