Green was the No. 13 overall pick of the 2009 draft out of USC and was rated as the A's top prospect by Baseball America as recently as 2011. He had yet to appear in a major-league game prior to Monday but was called up after batting .318 with 11 home runs and 49 RBIs in 81 games with Triple-A Sacramento. Infielder Adam Rosales was designated for assignment after hitting .200 with four home runs and eight RBIs in 48 games with Oakland. Manager Bob Melvin said the A's were hopeful to keep Rosales within the organization if he is not claimed on waivers. Melvin said the intention is for Green to play every day. The 25year-old was tied for second in the Pacific Coast League in runs (61) and hits (112). He batted .372 in June. The 7-foot free agent center who spent the first eight years of his career with the Clippers said Monday on Twitter that he had agreed to join the Lakers. The deal is reportedly for one year at $3.2 million. ''I am going to be going back to LA and it's to play for the Lakers!'' Kaman wrote. ''I am excited about this move and can't wait to play!'' It will be Kaman's second straight season on a one-year contract. He had an $8 million deal to be the starter in Dallas last season but spent more than half of every game on coach Rick Carlisle's bench. board with Murray getting knighted and joining the ranks of other sporting greats such as Roger Bannister, Nick Faldo and Kelly Holmes. ''I can't think of anyone who deserves one more,'' Cameron said. Murray, however, quickly downplayed the possibility. ''It's a nice thing to have or be offered,'' the 2013 Wimbledon champion said. ''I think just because everyone's waited for such a long time for this, that's probably why it will be suggested but I don't know if it merits that.'' PITTSBURGH (AP) — At 40 years old and 16 seasons into his major league career, Bartolo Colon thinks he's having a career season. On Monday night, Coco Crisp's speed helped preserve another win for Colon. Colon allowed one run over seven innings to outduel Jeff Locke as the Oakland Athletics won for the ninth time in their past 12 games, beating the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1 in a matchup of All-Star starters. Colon (12-3) moved into a tie for second in the majors in victories, and has the second-most wins by a 40-year-old in A's history. He allowed seven hits and one walk with five strikeouts. The final pitch Colon threw Monday resulted in Crisp making a diving catch to preserve Oakland's lead. Crisp ran to his right to track down a hard-hit sinking liner headed for the left-centerfield gap from Andrew McCutchen with two men on and two outs. ''The game was decided right there, to tell you the truth,'' said A's manager Bob Melvin, who called the catch ''the play of the year.'' Said Colon, through a translator: ''I said, three times, 'Thank you,' when we got back to the dugout.'' Colon shook off a tough-luck 3-1 defeat in his previous start to win for the ninth time in his last 10 outings. ''I've never pitched better than this year,'' said Colon, the 2005 AL Cy Young winner. ''This has been my best season.'' Locke (8-2) had a personal eight-game winning streak snapped, losing for the first time since his first start of the season April 10. He allowed three hits and three walks in seven innings. ''I wouldn't change anything about it,'' said Locke, selected as an All-Star over the weekend. ''Everything I did, I'd take it out there the next start.'' Except, perhaps, a walk of Derek Norris with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh that gave the A's a 2-0 lead. The Pirates got runners on second and third with two outs against Ryan Cook in the eighth, but Clint Barmes lined out to left. Murray takes Britain for a spin LONDON (AP) — Britain awoke to a new era on Monday, into a world in which the tennisloving public finally has its own Wimbledon champion once again. ''After 77 years, the wait is over,'' headlined the Daily Telegraph, a day after Andy Murray beat Novak Djokovic in straight sets to win the men's title at the All England Club. With the victory, Murray became the first British man to win the Wimbledon title since Fred Perry in 1936, a victory that has already sparked talk of a knighthood. ''Arise Sir Andrew, knight of the holy grail,'' The Times of London wrote in its lead story. ''Impossibly, dreamily, unbelievably and yet somehow almost easily, somehow almost inevitably, Andy Murray won the Men's Singles final at Wimbledon yesterday.'' Murray beat Djokovic 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 on a warm day under the sun at Centre Court, playing his usual defensive style almost perfectly against an opponent who also plays often-spectacular defensive tennis. Prime Minister David Cameron, who watched the match from the Royal Box, seemed to be on
