Born in Cleveland County, NC on June 22, 1935, he was the son of the late Erastus Velector Johnson and Vernie Irene Canipe Johnson. Mr. Johnson served our country in the US Army. In addition to his parents, he was pre- ceded in death by two grand- children a great-grandchild; and two brothers, Quinton Johnson and Jerry Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Padgett Johnson; daughter, Benita Johnson of Kings Mountain; son, Andrew Johnson and wife, Karla of Shelby; daugh- ter, Tiffany Johnson Wright and husband, Neil of Kings Mountain, Tracie Johnson Sawyers and husband, Scott of Denver and Caryn Johnson White and husband, Brent of Kings Mountain; a brother, Kenneth Johnson of Shelby; two sisters, Clara Johnson of Charlotte and Marie Odom of Shelby; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and one soon to join. A Funeral Service was held May 5, 2021 in Stamey- Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dale Byrd officiating. The burial fol- lowed the service in the Rose Hill Memorial Park. He was born in Kings Mountain, NC, son of the late Louise Bobbitt King and Denver (Dink) Olan King. Jerry was also preceded in death by his son Michael William King and his daughter- in-law, Thelma Jean Strickland King. Mr. King served our country in the U.S. Navy. BEN "PETE" ELMER PAGE Ben "Pete" Elmer Page, 88, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on May 4, 2021 at Atrium Cleveland in Shelby, NC. He was born in Cleveland County, NC, son of the late Ben Palmer and Alice Gantt Page and was preceded in death by his brothers, Vester and Bobby Page, and his sisters, Irene Perry, Myrtle Roberts, Grace Ruff, and Helen Cash; his daughter, Rita Faye Page; a granddaughter. He is survived by his wife, Betty Howell Page, of the home; sons: Robert Nolen Page and William Palmer Page (Dana), both of Kings Mountain; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchil- dren. Funeral services were held May 7, 2021 in the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with Reverend Dennis Harmon officiating. Interment was at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. BETTY MORRIS PUTNAM Betty Morrison Putnam, age 82, of Shelby, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. She was born in Cleveland County on December 7, 1938 to the late Thomas Biddix Morrison and Nellie Virginia Willis. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands Charles Dixon and later Ed Putnam as well as two brothers, Johnny B. Morrison and Jimmy Morrison and one sister, Linda Blanton. Betty is survived by her four brothers: Steve, Larry, Roger, and Ronnie Morrison as well as five sisters: Nancy Davis, Peggy Wright, Robin Price, Sandra Hiebert and Tracy McSwain. Funeral service were held May 6, 2021 in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Tim Trexler officiating. Burial followed in Cleveland Memorial Park. Cecil M. She was born on August 6, 1987 in Cleveland County, NC to Shayvonne Michelle Maddox and Marvin Brando Moore. Whitney is survived by one daughter, Aubrey Renée Maddox-Doster; mother, Shayvonne Maddox; father and her "other mom" Marvin "Brando" and Consuelo Moore; two sisters, Maria Maddox and Jasmine Moore; and three grandmothers; a grandfather. The graveside service was held May 6, 2021. Burial took place at Sunset Cemeter. MARY L. BOYD Mary L Boyd, 83, of Blacksburg, passed away on May 5, 2021. Born in Middletown NY, she was the widow of Roy William Boyd and daughter of the late Jess and Lucy Finkle Beach. Surviving Mrs. Boyd are her sons; Royd Boyd Jr., John Boyd, Dean Boyd, Dave Boyd, and Michael Boyd; daughters, Mary Ann Webber, Rose McAdams, Lucy Hendrickson, Tammy Arden and Betty Jo Culligan, and a host of grand- children, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held May 8, 2021 at Gordon Mortuary. Interment imme- diately followed in Mt. View Cemetery. LOYD WAYNE McNEELY Loyd Wayne McNeely, 69, of Vale, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. Born in Cleveland County on January 7, 1952 , he was the son of the late James Franklin Earl McNeely and Edith Elizabeth Bradshaw McNeely. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents. Survivors include his wife, Debbie Hicks McNeely; two daughters, Sarah McNeely (William) of Vale and Jessica McNeely (Micheal) of Lawndale; son, Michael McNeely (Ashley); six grand- children; one great grand- daughter; one brother, Charles King, and children: Karen King Moser (Jeff), Wesley Todd King (Paula), Susan Joan King (Jay), and John Finley King (Eden); seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Lewis R Cabe (Diane). Memorial service was held May 7, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church, Kings Mountain, NC with Reverend John Bridges officiating. A pri- vate interment was held at Mountain Rest Cemetery. BILL FRANCIS COLE Bill Francis Cole, 95, of Cherryville, NC passed away on May 4, 2021. He was born on Jan. 22, 1926. Mr. Cole served our country in the U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents he is survived by his son; Zachery Richard; and sister, Cindy Daves and husband, Curtis. The Memorial Service was held May 6, 2021 at Stamey- Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd McNeely and wife Denise; and one sister, Dianne Church. Born in Cleveland County on October 20, 1934, he was the son of the late Lennie H. Brittain and Sallie R. Brittain of Lawndale. Mr. Brittain served our coun- try in the US Army. In addition to his parents, he was pre- ceded in death by two sons-in-law, Gene Smith and Ed Hamrick, a step-son, Bobby Hunt; two sisters, Jackie Hamrick and Kay Lail; and a brother, Jimmy Brittain. He is survived by his wife, Faye Sain Brittain; daughter, Cathy Smith of Shelby; daugh- ter, Melanie Hamrick of Boiling Springs; and step-daughter, Sherry Hunt-Dedmon and husband, Shane, of Chesnee, SC; three grandchildren; two step-grandsons; six great- granddaughters; and a broth- er, George Brittain (Mary Ruth) of Shelby. Mr. Scott William Goforth, Sr., 79, of Shelby, NC passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021. He was born on August 30, 1941 in Cherokee County, SC to the late John Freeman Goforth and the late Rosa Lee Woods Goforth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Victoria "Vickie" Goforth; brothers, John "Jack" Goforth, Roy Goforth and Brodus Goforth; and two sisters, Virginia Byrd and Clementine Surratt. He leaves to cherish fond memories to his wife, Betty Jean Goforth; his children, Merry Oates (Gregory), Wilma Goforth and Scott Goforth, Jr. all of Shelby; one broth- er, Clyde Goforth (Nettie) of Kingstown, NC; Nettie Odoms of Hickory, NC; six grandchil- dren; seven great-grandchil- dren and one great-grandchild on the way; sisters-in-law, Annie Ruth Goforth, Kathleen Goforth, Rosie Whitstone, Agnes Dockery and Mabel Hill; and two brothers-in-law, Eddie Hill and Thomas Hill. ETHEL WHETSTINE WELLS Ethel Whetstine Wells, 91, of Kings Mountain, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. Born in York County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Otis and Lela Ford Whetstine. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Wells; son, Don Wells; two daugh- ters, Vickie Wells and Ruth Wells Horn; and four sisters. She is survived by her son, Steve Wells and wife Shirley of Kings Mountain; daughter, Elaine Walters and husband Carl of Shelby; brother, Bill Whetstine of Bessemer city; seven grandchildren, and several great and great great grandchildren. A graveside service was held May 7, 2021 in Mountain Rest Cemetery with the Rev. Matt Lewis officiating.
