Walk Raises Awareness and Support Parkinson Association of the Carolinas (PAC) will host its 7th annual MoveIt! Walk Charlotte on Saturday, May 22nd, 2021 from 8:30 AM until 12:00 PM at Symphony Park (located at 4400 Sharon Road Charlotte, NC 28211 - behind SouthPark Mall). The goal of the MoveIt! Walk is to raise awareness about Parkinson's disease and increase support and funding for Parkinson Association's free programs and services. The proceeds from this event will benefi t the Carolina Parkinson's community, including individuals living with Parkinson's disease, their caregivers, and their families. In addition to the Walk, the event will include an "Ask the Doc" session, a large number of Parkinson's related exhibitors, kid's activity area, "relaxation area," yoga, a raffl e prize drawing, live music and more! Participation is free and open to individuals of all ages. Registration is encouraged for indi- vidual walkers and teams. Fundraisers can track their progress on the event page between now and the end of the event, and supporters can interact with one another by sharing photos, videos, and other posts on the Parkinson Association of the Carolinas' Facebook page. "We have our MoveIt! Walk each year to make sure people with Parkinson's have access to medical organizations, pharmaceutical companies and complementary services they may be able to utilize in their daily journey with PD. It is also a time for them to socialize with other PD people who are able to share their experiences and gain insight on ways to better manage the Dis- ease." Ann Marie Worman. Parkinson's is a progressive brain disease that affects up to 10 million people worldwide, in- cluding one million in the United States. Locally, across both Carolinas there is estimated to be 40,000 people with Parkinson's. Symptoms, which worsen over time, include tremors, stiffness of arms, legs and trunk, slowness of movement, poor balance and coordination, and loss of speech. There is no cure for Parkinson's disease. Parkinson Association of the Carolinas is a regional nonprofi t providing a variety of services, including a toll-free resource line, support groups, exercise programs, educational initiatives, and more throughout the North Carolina region. The organization also strives to empower and encourage individuals living with Parkinson's disease, along with their caregivers and families, by providing information, resources, and a nurturing community to support people in their per- sonal journeys. For detailed information on how to participate in the walk, form or support a team, sponsor the event, and more, visit www.parkinsonassociation.org. The experience of living with or caring for an individual with Parkinson's disease can be im- mensely challenging on both an emotional and physical level. Anyone who has ever been affected understands the depths of this reality. It's why we walk. For information, advance interviews, or to schedule coverage/fi lming, contact Executive Di- rector Ann Marie Worman via e-mail at aworman@parkinsonassociation.org.
