6C Daily News – Thursday, May 30, 2013 Bidwell School Gerber School Vista Middle School Metteer School Evergreen School Evergreen School Tanner Gantenbein Travis Fite Rena Fox Maria Garfia Corinna Wong Jennifer Peyton 6th Grade 8th Grade 8th Grade 6th Grade 8th Grade 8th Grade Tanner Gantenbein is an exceptional athlete, who will not let anything stand in his way, as was evidenced last weekend when he tried to finish his Lacrosse game with a broken arm! Mr. Gantenbein leads by example, and he improves the quality of work of those around him. His attitude and work ethic are exceptional and his leadership qualities make him a valuable asset whether you are on the field or completing a math lesson. Travis Fite is an honor roll student at Gerber School. His favorite subject is P.E. (you'll notice a theme here involving physical and outdoor activity) and he has played basketball and softball at Gerber, as well as being involved in football, golf, and baseball outside of school. He is also a member of the Student Council. He would like to attend Oregon University and major in Wildlife Management, with a goal of becoming a fish and game warden. Travis is definitely deserving of being recognized as a Student of Distinction. Rena Fox is a student who strives for perfection. She constantly amazes teachers with her new insights and thoughts within the classroom conversations. Rena is one of the first students to volunteer for "extra jobs," even when it is not EXTRA CREDIT. All around student; athlete, scholar and she's funny too. Maria will be named the Student of the Trimester for Metteer Elementary at the School Board meeting on May 14. She is very proud of her 4.0 GPA, and works hard to do her best work at all times. Most importantly, she is a kind, thoughtful person, and is always willing to help other students who are not as academically oriented as she is. I could literally say over 100 positive things about Corinna. To be contrite, she embodies the idea of excellence. Every assignment, big or small, she completes with excellence and thoroughness. In addition to being academically minded and driven, she is also an example socially to others, and shows respect to not only her teachers, but to her peers as well. She has great composure, and although she may not be the first to speak up, when she does comment on an idea or discussion, she has something insightful to say. I have no doubt Corinna will continue to excel both in education and life. It is exciting to imagine where she will be 10-20 years from now because she has so much talent in so many different fields. Jennifer Peyton is a student of distinction in many ways. She is an outstanding citizen, always looking out for others, and seeking ways to help when she can. Jen leads by example with her gentle wisdom, cheerful attitude, and perspectives on life. In addition, Jen embraces academics, eager to explore concepts beyond what is asked of her, and then shares her findings in words crafted thoughtfully and skillfully. Jen's talents also extend beyond the classroom to the stage, where she captures the audience with her joy of singing. Clearly, Jennifer is a distinguished student. If she's given an assignment, she will not only complete it, but will execute it with an unusual degree of thought and effort. She goes above and beyond what is required. Mady is intelligent, well-liked by her peers, and clearly values her education. Mady deserves recognition for her bright spirit and her unwavering willingness to learn. Marisa Fulks is being nominated for this award for overcoming so many obstacles with grace and dignity in her life. Marisa has worked extremely hard to maintain her grades, attendance, and health. Marisa deserves this public recognition because she is an inspiration to all who know about her suffering. Although she is on the transplant list and has spent a month in intensive care, plus countless weeks in and out of the hospital suffering from grave ailments, she manages to keep a smile, good attitude and enjoy excellent academic achievement. She is a fine young lady and a pleasure to have as a student.
