She has been Elks Lodge Student of the Quarter, All-league for Varsity Soccer, most valuable runner in track, led team USA to win the United World Games in Austria, was student of the month, and participated in ROP Health Occupations. Jessica Macdonald plans to attend University of Nevada, Reno, to obtain a Nursing degree. She is the founder and co-chair of the Nor Cal Hero Ride for life, and the RBHS PinkOut game. She is involved in 4-H, FFA, ROP Health Occupations, CSF, and does various volunteer work for the community. Jessica also played volleyball and basketball all 4 years at Red Bluff High School. Laurel Shoop plans to attend UCLA. During high school she has been editor-in-chief of the school newspaper The Bluffer, played soccer, track, and basketball, was involved in CSF, played the violin and fiddle, was a summer camp counselor, and participated in club soccer. Lily Brose plans to join the United States Naval Academy. Her accomplishments in high school include ROP athletic training, VP of outdoor adventure club, four years of varsity basketball, two years of varsity track, 2012 Daily News Athlete of the Year, and member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Colin Igarta will attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and major in Kinesiology. In high school, Colin won Kiwanis Student of the Quarter, played baseball and guitar, was a member of CSF, and participated in a local youth group and worship team. His goal is to get his PHD in physical therapy and become a physical therapist. Christy Zalesney is an outstanding 6th grade student at Jackson Heights. She dedicates herself to learning and discovering new things. She loves to read and has read over one million words this year. Christy is creative and enjoys writing, drawing, and music. She has written several enchanting stories and someday wishes to become a writer. Christy is also a talented musician and plays the clarinet in advanced band. She is dedicated to her education, organized and diligent in managing her coursework, and perseveres when things are not going well outside of school. Elizabeth asks for help when she needs it and offers help to others whenever she can. She is kind to everyone, always has smile, and works hard not to get involved in " school drama." Elizabeth is a student and a fine young lady who emanates a wonderful mixture of strong academics and a kind heart. Erica Rivera's loyalty to Corning Union High School runs deeply. As ASB President, her commitment to CUHS motivates her to push her peers to reach beyond the boundaries of the school's campus, and give back to the community of Corning. Her leadership is just one facet of her dedication to making a difference in the community; she is an outstanding student. Erica carries a full load of academic courses, and excels in all of them. This blend of community involvement, concern for others, and academic focus makes Erica Rivera someone who will change the world. Evan is interested in his learning and that makes him an excellent student. He regularly exceeds expectations because he personalizes each assignment. Instead of asking how the schoolwork relates to his life, Evan integrates his life experience into his work. He stands out as a critical thinker, reader, and writer. Evan is a positive person. His communication with peers and adults demonstrates maturity. He has been a role model in class and he collaborates with other students by helping them realize their own potential for success. Evan participated as a student representative on our school's WASC accreditation committee and served on a WASC visiting team to Pioneer High School in Woodland, CA this past March and the adults on that visiting team were astounded by his performance. His success has been a valuable contribution to the life and culture of Corning High School. Gillian Wunsch is an 8th grade student at Kirkwood School. She has been attending Kirkwood since kindergarten and is looking forward to spending her high school years at Corning High. During her time at Kirkwood, Gillian has maintained at 3.5-4.0 GPA while participating in volleyball, basketball, and softball, as well as cheering for the Corning Lions. She is currently the student body president and has participated in student council since the 5th grade. Gillian is a very respectful, kind young lady and is a natural leader. After high school, she plans to attend Chico State and would like to work in the field of pediatrics. With her ambition and positive outlook on life, Gillian will be successful in whatever adventures she embarks on. Hannah Thornton is an 8th grade student who has displayed many talents at Los Molinos Elementary. She carries a 4.0 GPA and serves as the school's ASB President. She has played both volleyball and basketball but her true passion is music and dancing. At Los Molinos High School, she plans to be involved in FFA and AVID. After high school, she would like to attend UC Davis and become a veterinary surgeon. Her dream is to someday work with the military to support their animal programs.
