Super Bowls ads around $4 million NEW YORK (AP) — Super Bowl ads have sold for more than $4 million for some 30-second spots for this year's game. All the commercials for the NFL championship Feb. 3 in New Orleans are sold out, CBS Corp. CEO Leslie Moonves said Tuesday. Companies paid an average of $3.5 million for a 30-second spot last year, the previous record for a number that keeps going up. TV's biggest event averaged more than 111 million viewers in 2012. For CBS, the entire company is taking part in promoting the Super Bowl. The network's telecasts will be headquartered in New Orleans' Jackson Square. The halftime show will be by Beyonce. The competition showcases talented young ropers from all over the United States. On Dec. 14 a pair of Tehama County cowgirls were fearsome competitors by being the only two girls to qualify in the Top 10 for the 7-to 9-yearold age division. When all was said and done the girls were proud of their accomplishments. Gerber 9-year-old Shelby Dunning went out strong and tied for seventh through ninth place. Lady Spartans deal Cards loss By RICH GREENE DN Staff Writer Brittany Clatty had 11 of her game-high 21 points in the second quarter as the Lady Spartans used the period to blow open a 73-35 win over county-rival Corning. Rachel Silva had eight points to lead the Lady Cardinals, who held close through a whistlefilled first period. Officials called 15 fouls in the first quarter and Red Bluff 's backcourt duo of Daisy Brose and Chelsey Bushnell were each sent to the bench with two fouls each within the first three minutes of the game. Corning's Keara Terras and Emerie Eller each racked up three fouls by intermission. Both teams pressed each other throughout the night and Red Bluff led just a 16-11 after the first, but that changed quickly in the second quarter. Brose and Bushnell checked back into the game with 6:22 left in the first half and the Lady Spartans finally solved the Corning press. Clatty scored back-to-back baskets to break the game open and Bushnell nailed a 3-pointer to extend the lead to to 15 points. Clatty wasn't done. She followed Bushnell's triple with one of her own and the Lady Spartans looked up to a 32-14 lead midway through the second quarter. The Lady Spartans led 36-17 at halftime. Not once has he complained or pouted about his limited touches. Davis even laughs about how he might have reacted in his younger days if the ball so rarely came his way. ''Coaches wouldn't like me,'' he said, chuckling. A year ago this week, Davis had the defining moment of his career in a thrilling 36-32 playoff win over New Orleans. He made a leaping 14-yard touchdown catch while getting smashed by safety Roman Harper, a play Davis dubbed ''The Grab,'' which sent the tight end running to the sideline in tears and the 49ers to the NFC championship game. A year later, Davis enters San Francisco's NFC divisional playoff against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night as somewhat of a mystery. He's perhaps the most proven and prolific threat for the 49ers, as he showed in both games last January, though his role has See GRAB, page 2B Lady Warriors cruise to tournament championship Jessica Curl poured in 24 points and the Mercy Lady Warriors cruised past New Life Christian 50-33 Saturday to claim the 18th Annual American Christian Academy Tournament championship.
