Officers were sent to the park for the report of a stabbing and found the older man bleeding profusely from his back. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, the release said. The victims told police they and a female companion were having a barbecue in the park when they were approached by four or five Hispanic men in their 20s, who surrounded them and began arguing with them. A fight broke out and the older man was stabbed in the back, the release said. The suspects then fled the park south onto Main Street. The victims said they could not identify their assailants. The case is under investigation and no further information was available Monday night. RB brothers nabbed in Lowe's break-in Giddy up! The business will reopen Jan. 15. Iconic downtown business gets a makeover By JULIE ZEEB DN Staff Writer While the Palomino Room has been closed since the first week of January, it is not going out of business. Operated in Red Bluff since 1946 and owned by Randy Leak for seven years, the business is in the process of a remodel. "We want to take it back into the elegance of the pioneer days and give it more of a family environment," Leak said. "We want people to be comfortable enough to eat here with their family and for it to be relaxing." Calif. governor 'great' after cancer treatment LOS ANGELES (AP) โ€” California Gov. Jerry Brown said Tuesday that he has concluded radiation treatment for early-stage prostate cancer, his second health scare since taking office two years ago. ''My health is great,'' the 74-year-old Democrat declared in downtown Los Angeles, where he told reporters the treatment was ''over, it's done.'' ''I'm ready to go,'' Brown boasted. ''You're going to have me ... to kick around for a long time.'' Brown's office disclosed last month that he was undergoing radiation treatment for the second most common cancer to afflict men, but provided few details about his condition 7 5 8 5 5 1 6 9 0 0 1 9 or treatment. At the time, his oncologist called his prognosis ''excellent.'' Brown, who became California's oldest sitting governor last year, had surgery to remove a cancerous growth on the right side of his nose in April 2011, a few months after he reclaimed the office he first held from 1975 to 1983. More than 241,000 new cases of prostate cancer were expected to be diagnosed in the United States last year โ€” nearly twothirds of them in men 65 or older. The typical radiation treatment for early-stage prostate cancer is five days a week, for four to five weeks. Those who undergo radiation are typically subjected to a series of high-intensity beams aimed directly at the prostate, a procedure similar to undergoing an X-ray that can take less than half an hour. While future plans do include barbecuing out on the sidewalk, the focus at the moment is making a few changes on the inside, he said. Most notably, the signs with girls in bikinis and some of the other beer signs, including quite a few neon ones, have been taken down, Leak said. On Feb. 21, the group will be holding its firstever Business Expo After Hours Mixer at the Elks Lodge, 355 Gilmore Road, in Red Bluff. "It's something that has been in the works for a while," Chamber CEO Dave Gowan said. "As a chamber, we like to bring new events and promote area businesses and organizations. This is a great way to do it. As far as I've found, there's been no business expo in Red Bluff." While an all-day expo might be a bit overwhelming, a mini-business expo combined with a mixer was something a bit more do-able, he said. "This trade show is an excellent opportunity for all our local businesses to showcase what they have to offer to Red Bluff and Tehama County," Gowan said. The chamber will have enough room for 50 spaces and is encouraging participants to make their booths fun, he said. The registration deadline is Feb. 20. Businesses will have from 1-4:30 p.m. to setup for the expo, which will be 5-7 p.m. "The response has been huge already and it's over a month and a half away," Gowan said. "I have a feeling we will sell out." Of the 15 participants who have signed up in the almost two weeks since the chamber announced the event, one is bringing a small bowling ball set and another asked to bring a popcorn machine, he said. "This is going to be a strong business to business community event that is open to the general public," Gowan said. "The chamber really wants the vendors to make this a fun event with contests, free giveaways or discounts." Admission for the general public is free and there will be a no-host bar along with free appetizers provided by Cornerstone Community Bank.
