He was an All-SEC pick in 2015. GAME 6 ALABAMA DATE Oct. 14 PLACE Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, Ala. 2016 RECORD 14-1, 8-0 SEC COACH Nick Saban (119-19 in 10 seasons at Alabama, 210-61-1 in 21 seasons overall) RETURNING STARTERS 6 offense, 6 defense KEY PLAYERS QB Jalen Hurts, RB Bo Scarbrough, WR Calvin Ridley, SS Minkah Fitzpatrick, NG Da'Ron Payne. 2017 SCHEDULE Sept. 2 ..................... vs Florida State (Atlanta) Sept. 9 ......................................... Fresno State Sept. 16 ....................................Colorado State Sept. 23 ........................................ at Vanderbilt Sept. 30 ..............................................Ole Miss Oct. 7 ..........................................at Texas A&M Oct. 14 ...............................................Arkansas Oct. 23 ............................................ Tennessee Nov. 4 ........................................................ LSU Nov. 11 ...............................at Mississippi State Nov. 18 ..................................................Mercer Nov. 25 ............................................. at Auburn OUTLOOK Arkansas is still trying to figure out a way to beat Alabama Coach Nick Sa- ban. So are a lot of other SEC teams. Saban is 68-12 in conference games in his 10 sea- sons leading the Crimson Tide — including 10-0 against the Razorbacks — and 43-5 since 2011. … Auburn's Gus Malzahn is the only current SEC coach to beat Saban, and that was in 2013. Alabama looks loaded again and was the overwhelming pick at SEC media days to win a third fourth consecutive confer- ence championship. … The Tide also are No. 1 in several preseason polls as they try to win a fifth national title under Saban since 2009. … Sophomore quarterback Jalen Hurts fig- ures to be much improved going into his sec- ond season as a starter and Alabama is load- ed at running back led by Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris. … Calvin Ridley is a big-play receiver. … Five Alabama players were vot- ed to the All-SEC first-team defense: linemen Da'Ron Payne and Da'Shawn Hand, lineback- er Rashaan Evans, and safeties Minkah Fitz- patrick and Ronnie Henderson. GAME 7 AUBURN DATE Oct. 21 PLACE Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn, Ala. 2016 RECORD 8-5, 5-3 SEC COACH Gus Malzahn (35-18 in four seasons at Auburn, 44-21 in five seasons overall) RETURNING STARTERS 8 offense, 7 defense KEY PLAYERS RB Kamryn Pettway, RB Kerryon Johnson, QB Jarrett Stidham, SS Tray Matthews, DE Marlon Davidson. 2017 SCHEUDLE Sept. 2 .................................Georgia Southern Sept. 9 ........................................... at Clemson Sept. 16 .................................................Mercer Sept. 23 .......................................... at Missouri Sept. 30 .................................Mississippi State Oct. 7 ..................................................Ole Miss Oct. 14 ...................................................at LSU Oct. 21 ...............................................Arkansas Nov. 4 .............................................Texas A&M Nov. 11 ................................................. Georgia Nov. 18 ................................Louisiana-Monroe Nov. 25 ...............................................Alabama OUTLOOK Gus Malzahn (Fort Smith) has enjoyed pretty good success with transfer quarterbacks at Auburn. Cam Newton led the Tigers to the national championship in 2010 when Malzahn was the offensive coordinator, and Nick Marshall helped the Tigers win the SEC championship in 2013 in Malzahn's fist season as their head coach. Jarrett Stidham — who starred as a freshman at Baylor in 2015 and transferred to McLellan Junior Col- lege after Art Briles was fired as coach — may be the next great Auburn quarterback who be- gan his career at a different college. Malzahn named Stidham the starter midway through training camp. … Stidham will benefit from having one of the nation's top running back tandems in Kamryn Pettway (1,224 rushing yards last season) and Kerryon Johnson (895). … The Auburn defense should again be tough under coordinator Kevin Steele and led by senior safety Tray Matthews (76 tackles last season) and sophomore end Marlon Davidson (6 tackles for losses of 24 yards). GAME 8 OLE MISS DATE Oct. 28 PLACE Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, Oxford, Miss. 2016 RECORD 5-7, 2-6 SEC Opponents v Continued from Page 35 v Continued on next page
