The Musings of Pitt Dickey Man of La Mancha at CFRT Givens Performing Arts Center Cirque Montage CUMBERLAND County Receives National Technology Ranking Youth Complete County Government Program Fifteen youth completed the 4th annual Cumberland County Youth Government Tour on July 29. The youth, ages 13-17, spent the week of July 25-29 learning about Cumberland County Government by visiting various county facilities and departments. The program was sponsored by Cumberland County Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development in partnership with Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation. The tour participants were Madison Boswell, Jordan Clayborn, Carson Cole, DaKhari Davis, Eva Davis, Jadon Grado, Charlotte Jackson, Josh Jensen, Ashlyn Johnson, Emily Martin, Rebecca Mitchell, Jenna Nabors, Luis Ortiz, Kaydee Stafford and Konstance Woods. Find us on social media and at co.cumberland.nc.us Charlotte Jackson, Jordan Clayborn, Jadon Grado and Eva Davis discuss a curfew ordinance during a mock Board of Commissioners meeting in the Courthouse July 29. They played the roles of county commissioners during the meeting as part of the Youth Government Tour July 25-29. Cumberland County has been recognized as one of the most technologically innovative counties in the nation by the Center for Digital Government (CDG) and the National Association of Counties (NACo). Results of the survey conducted by the CDG and NACo were announced in July. Cumberland ranked fifth in the nation in the 250,000-499,999 population category. The survey identifies the best technology practices among counties, including initiatives that save tax dollars through newfound efficiencies; boost transparency, cybersecurity and engagement; or innovate through unique and exciting projects. County initiatives included the Business Intelligence initiative, new financial software, Voice-over Internet phone system, free public Wi-Fi in the courthouse and live streaming meetings. Library Offers Job Training, Career Workshops The Cumberland County Public Library is offering several programs for job seekers and those who want to improve skills for job advancement during August and September, ahead of the annual job fair at Headquarters Library on Sept. 21. Programs and workshops include: • "Job Search Secrets and Strategies" will be held Aug. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Headquarters Library. • "Career Readiness Certificate Training" will be held Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. at Bordeaux Branch, 3711 Village Dr. • "NC Works Basics" will be held Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. at Spring Lake Branch, 101 Laketree Blvd. • "Writing Killer Résumés and Cover Letters" will be held Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Headquarters Library. • "Finding Insider Information on Employment Prospects" will be held Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Headquarters Library.
