The school appealed and the hearing is scheduled in May. De- clining test scores, fi nancial issues, and internal challenges created the situation. Current enrollment is 75 7th-12 grade students. In Madewell's letter to the town, she stated, "A most recent Arizona Dept. of Education Average Daily Member- ship Audit proved to fi nd non-resi- dent students attending the school (aka Blythe)." "This is a school policy that was not followed through accordingly by staff. With the Dept. of Education monitor- ing student enrollment, this will not happen in the future. The recourse of this is to pay back funds that were spent May 2, 2012 on educating non-resident students with Arizona funding. This is a funding issue and will also be addressed." According to students and parents, allegations of the administrators' af- fair surfaced since last spring, when text messages between the two were revealed. Students said no one would listen to their concerns. Joseph Hager explained he didn't care what people did in their private life, but "bringing into our school is not acceptable." The video has drawn attention of na- tional and international media. Inside Edition was in Quartzsite Monday to interview the Tanda Bastin, the moth- er of 16 year-old Myranda who took the video on her cell phone. News of the affair spread quickly around the globe including Australia, UK, Paki- stan, and Ghana. The videographer's mother said, "This is unethical, disgusting, and absolutely irresponsible. These types of actions are NOT tolerable. These people are supposed to be profession- al leaders of our community and the school in which they work. They are role models for the children that at- tend our schools." Longtime resident Susan Cushman said, "We need to focus on making sure there's a local high school that students can attend at the start of the next school year."
