April 18, 2012 Quartzsite Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition Quartzsite Substance Abuse Prevention will continue our free movie through the summer. April 21, we will be showing "War Horse" at 6:00 pm in the Town Hall. Concessions are available and bring a comfortable chair. On March 30, 2012 the 4th and 5th grad- ers of the afterschool program have started The Chain of Life. This program is open to all school age children of Quartzsite. What it is is a pledge for all the students from kindergarten to 12th grade to take against Destructive Decisions. The 4th and 5th graders have come up www.DesertMessenger.com Hi Jolly Cemetery's Pioneers Who Were They? By Dinice Ross, Hi Jolly Cemetery, Records/Historian Anton Hagely – Times were hard, money scarce and with 8 mouths to feed, every one worked and worked hard from the smallest child to the old- est adult. There was not a lot of play, nor a lot of rest. When sickness came it was home remedies or death. Headstone reads: "FATHER" with a list of 14 items they feel are de- structive decisions. These include; Not to smoke – Not to Drink Alcohol – Not to Chew Tobacco – No Texting while driving – Pay Attention While Crossing the Road – Not to Point Guns at People – Not to Play with Knives – Not to Steal – Not to Take any Medication that does not belong to you – Not to Fight – Not to Bully – Not to swear – Not to Drive until you get your license – And Never Walk Alone. Any school age child in the Town of Quartzsite is eligible to take the pledge and become part of the Chain of Life. The children themselves are the ones that are policing the chain to be sure their peers are true to their pledge. A chain has been started in the after school building and we hope to reach every child in our town. Each student that takes the pledge will receive a link in the chain, a certifi cate and a copy of the pledge to remind them of their goal. If you have any questions, or if your child would like to take the pledge contact Trac- ey, Yesenia, or Patty at 928-927-9182. Wuertenburg,Germany Sept, 27th 1845 (Death Certifi cate has 1844).
