Page 2 Quartzsite, AZ - In an ongoing con- fusion over the March 13th election, write-in candidate John Prutch fi led a complaint challenging the Town of Quartzsite's election. The complaint was fi led in Maricopa Superior Court by Prutch's attorney. The case was dismissed with prejudice, but after a request for consideration by Prutch's attorney, the judge reversed his ruling, moving the case to La Paz County. Early Monday morning, April 16th, the case was brought before Judge Burke who dismissed the case in less than a half hour. Prutch was a write-in candidate run- ning against appointed incumbent Mike Jewitt. The complaint argued Jewitt did not receive over 50% of the ballots cast. The Town argued that it was a special election. Prutch received www.MyQuartzsite.com of the Desert Messenger Email: desertmessenger7@yahoo.com DEADLINE is WED. These are the magic keys to living your life with integrity." ~ W. Clement Stone I remember the fi rst time I said "no" to my step-father. I ended up on the fl oor with a disjointed jaw that causes me problems to this day. The universe gave me a gift, because I'll always remember that moment when I fi rst took a stand against oppression. I could have allowed myself to be paralyzed by the fear of that experi- ence. I chose another path, the one of learning how to communicate in a peaceful manner. This past weekend, an Internet personality phoned me saying he wanted another side of the story about "Quartzsite Corruption". We talked for over an hour, most likely recorded for his Sunday show. His intense form of communication led me to believe he was aligned with all the stories. Imagine a stranger reframing your words, over and over again. It sure did not feel like an interview where I was being heard in a complete respectful manner. His preconceived ideas of who I am, and what I believe was pretty astonishing. However, the Internet is full people writing about Quartzsite who know nothing about it, yet talk as if they do. My previous experience with my step-father gave me the courage to tell the interviewer "no!" multiple times. I guess the host didn't like the answers DESERT We're here for the WHOLE season! I challenged him to look at the issue from another point of view. Consider the fact the town was NEVER under Martial Law. One has to wonder why these stories still being spread if the facts prove they're lies. Where's the Integrity when people continue spreading lies, innuendos and falsehoods? standing that the facts didn't jive with the fabricated stories. Sunday came around and the only conversation on his show about Quartzsite was from candidate Ed Foster, publisher Jen- nifer Jones and talk show host Richard Abbey. These three talked about their perception of corruption inside and around Town Hall; same story, just a different channel. Evidently, he had a diffi cult time under- So today let's take a stand and say enough of spreading out-and-out lies about people and events of our town. Just because it's on the Internet, radio, or even in print, does not make the story valid. Maybe it's just easier to believe the drama of someone spew- ing case law studies, who were told by someone that something horrible hap- pened, etc. Maybe this talk show host chose not to look at his own beliefs. Or maybe it's all for ratings and drama, or his own sense of power. Who knows? This recent lesson was a good re- minder that saying "no" does not hurt. How a person responds to that small word will show you much about their level of integrity. Quartzsite is a wonderful communi- ty to retire to, raise a family or just be! Let's not give the power to ruin your day to someone who lies or cheats. "Courage to face the truth": if you're reading an article and there are no facts to back it up, consider it an opin- ion, just as this editorial is. It's just my opinion...and everyone has one. Instead of "just say no", try saying "YES" to what matters to you and your family. Say YES to the good in Quartzsite. Say YES to your future.
