April 18, 2012 Perspectives Quirky Quartzsite's Contributed by Violet Kiss Controversy, what would Quartzsite do without it? My husband and I had wintered off and on over many years before we moved in year-round, now in our 4th year. We knew noth- ing about the constant and consis- tent Hatfi eld versus McCoy mentality here. Our fi rst Council Meeting was in 9/2009 to see what was happen- ing here. Boy, did we get an earful. We were in the midst of recalls and controversies that had begun (that time) from the summer of 2008. Re- calls after recalls were done by the Oppositionists, aka Citizens Coali- tion. Mostly these recalls, viral video broadcasts and blogs were based on things that occurred with other Coun- cils many years before. Issues (such as the water and sewer rates and oth- ers) brought up are old, trite, used and reused. The reason I bring this up is to show this vicious cycle of discrediting the www.DesertMessenger.com (newspaper). Town and seems to be never ending. This is the rebirth of myriad attempts to embar- rass the Town and trying to dis-incorporate the Town. I have been reading past edi- tions of the Town Council Minutes and also The Gem In past Council minutes I found that John Prutch had been fi red for impro- priety against the Town and Towns- people. In minutes and The Gem I found the re-cycling of old stories, rumors and threats rearing their ugly heads over and over again. I will ad- mit I have not read all of this material (yet), I read certain periods which I was investigating for answers. Re- member when they were trying to bring in a prison (for income) to the Town several years ago? Read back is- sues of The Gem; this also occurred in the mid 1990's. The old-timers know who ran the Town then, who published The Gem, and who wrote the articles. Ask why certain BLM land sales were kept secret to a very few who gained by the lands yet did not open it to the public. Ask why certain sewer lines went a specifi c way from where it was supposed to be put in. Ask why there were cover-ups of so many things. Ask Week of the Young Child April 23-27th Quartzsite- Little Scholars Preschool will be celebrating the Week of the Young Child April 23-27, 2012. Special activities are planned for the week with special readers, art work displayed at AWC and the Library, fi eld trip to AWC, and a bouncy house/picnic at the park. Thank you to Pastor Rita from Assembly of God, Eileen Ostergren from AWC, and Joanne Winer for planning visits to read to us. We are also excited that Tracey Richardson, Parks and Recreation Director, is planning to have the Bouncy House put up for us! Of course, Ms. Ashley at the Children's Library will be working with us to display our art and having a story for us that week, just like she has done all year for us. If you are interested in volunteering for a reading session or other activity for the Preschool the week of April 23-27, 2012, please call 928-927-9420 and ask for Lisa DeHaven. Thank you to our Quartzsite community for continuing to support the Pre- school! Page 19 who was behind it all. The trail can be found and there are enough old-timers who are still here remembering those days. Many of these old-timers are the very ones who got tired of this all and won't vote anymore. Yet, those who per- petrated or succeeded within these stories and deeds are the very ones who are part of this oppositional movement to discredit the Town still today. How long can old 'grudges' last? Yes, there are new personnel in this oppositional movement this time, of course. In the old days it was the same people. Not today. The Technological Age helps bring the Oppositionists needed fresh blood, sweat and tears. Younger, feisty, idealistic people were eager to join the 'cause'. When they start hearing about the Hatfi elds and McCoys, it doesn't take much to jump on the bandwagon to get a better 'ear' and 'backing' for their Libertarian slant. Now all these groups are in cahoots. Both sides (the older and younger) are using each other for their own personal gains. The older appear to want to dis-incorporate the town and take over the services for personal gain and the younger wants to simply have their moment of fame and to make gains in their political movements. I am also really tired about this check issue Mr. Foster keeps bringing up. Who hasn't heard about: bereave- ment, maternity or paternity, vacation pays, etc, which are often paid through separate checks from their normal pay? Do you really think Quartzsite would be all over the Internet, videos, Newspapers and blogs for the quiet, safe little town that we are? C'mon. And, I have a nice little piece of land in the Florida Everglades I'll let you buy for a great price…yawn. Sunday Worship: 10am & 6pm Wednesday Service: 6pm Phone: 928-927-5035 375 E.
