This time it was Chase they beat 20-7 to stay unbeaten. The Bulldogs had two touchdowns in that 4th quarter, as Quarterback Cameron Barbee handed off to running back Teriq James, who had runs of 58 and 6 yards in to the end zone. On defensive, Nate Black for Burns got his hands on a Chase fumble in the fi rst qtr. for the Dawgs only score before halftime. Burns improved to 1-0 in conference play and 3-0 overall as they now prepare for their fi rst in-county rivalry game of the season hosting Kings Mountain this Friday night. The Crest Chargers After a week off, Crest picked up where they left things two weeks before, as they crushed Draughn 54 to 7. This was the Chargers South Mtn. Athletic Conference opener, as they improved to 3-0. Quarterback Willie Green went 6 of 11 for Crest in passing for just over 160 yards; three touchdowns in the air and he also had one on the ground. The Chargers special teams added to the scoring off Draughn punts, as Preston Huskey returned one for a touchdown and Tyriek Ramseur recovered a bad snap for another. Crest's good offensive attack got even more offense from its defense and special teams for the victory. This week they visit TC Roberson. The Kings Mountain Mountaineers. After weather caused havoc for the second Friday night in a row, Kings Mountain's game with East Rutherford stopped before the end of the fi rst quarter and was concluded Monday night. The results were good for the Mountaineers as they won 42-23. Things really got going in the second half as Kings Mountain's defense shut down the Cavaliers run- ning game with contributions from Jerdon Pressley and Chance Fredrick. This, while KM's offense lit up the scoreboard through the air, as QB - Darren Burns threw numerous big passes. Two of the biggest were touchdown grabs by Kavin Mosely of 79 yards and Jake Merchant, 40 yards. The Mountaineers scored 21 points in the 3rd qtr. alone to run away with the contest. Most likely, one Cleveland Co. team will no longer be unbeaten after this Friday, when KM vs. Burns. The Shelby Golden Lions The Golden Lions spread offense continues putting up big numbers, led by Quarterback Darquez Lee. Lee threw a Shelby record 6 touchdowns for a total of 353 yards in passing as the Lions whipped RS Central 52-7. Wide Re- ceivers scoring TD's on the night for Shelby, included Xavier Brooks, Jayden Borders, Darius Fuller, and Kavacia Shell. Shelby's offensive line has been an important part of Lee's success - giving him time to look and connect effectively with receivers. Shelby's defense got 2 touchdowns off of interceptions by Damien Key and Demonte Poole. After winning their conference opener, the Lions at 4-0 have another this week when they host Chase.
