It is also a time of "thanks". I'd like to reflect on the wonderful people and things around us that enrich, amuse, and protect our lives here in Quartzsite. Our quaint, quirky Quartzsite grows from 3,600 year-round citizens to over 300,000 in winter including snowbirds and vendors and up to 1 Million including all visitors. Somehow, and almost miraculously, Quartzsite appears to burst at its seams, yet our town opens its arms and hugs us enveloping us all in its warm Sonora Sun, with vendors lined up all over town, items selling off its shelves, restaurant and postal lines galore. We get our fill, have fun, shopping needs are handled, every- day life goes on and so all is safe and well in Quartzsite. How does all this get done so smoothly and with these huge changes every year? It's that time of year looking back to see January 4, 2012 Contributed by Violet Kiss Have you noticed the changes? The beautification of Central Boulevard, Plym- outh Road, both East and West Quail Trail (with much more to come) having land- scaping and bike and walking trails, the 4 – corners of Quartzsite whereby bold tall granite markers emblazoned with our now internationally known town's name and its camels greet all from every direction. New supporting businesses have opened. There are so many to thank but let's start with the Town, all of its staff, Fire and Police Departments, the vendors, store and restaurant owners and all employ- ees. Then the endless quiet deeds, selfless energy of so many who help and serve on numerous charitable organizations and boards. When you attend any Quartzsite's events, the never-ending energy and time given by so many to get things running smoothly are never thanked or appreciated enough. I see other or sometimes the same compas- sionate, hard-working townspeople who never stop helping and finding answers to those that need. We also have 'snow- birds' and others new to town volunteer and help in many ways. These "silent he- roes" aren't paid, give much of their time, and help others even at their own expense. These are the people who never complain, don't want or need recognition, no person- al agendas or self aggrandizement, are al- ways positive speaking in their words, and most importantly, their actions. You will never see one negative word ever written, printed or spoken by them anywhere. You see by their actions, not meanness, deroga- tory remarks and certainly not any outra- geous unfounded scandalous rumors. As you go into any establishment, see work- ers out and about in town, attend an event, our town consists of a lot of "silent heroes" who help make all of our Quirky Quartzsite function well (even when we are bursting at the seams). Thank them when you have a chance. Have a bit of patience when the lines are long, somehow Quartzsite takes care of it all even when we explode to 100 – fold and more! Look around you, Quartz- site works - Quartzsite rocks! Entering 2012, we'll be celebrating Ari- zona's 100th year of Statehood as the 48th State next month on February 14th. So much has been going on this last year and will continue this winter season. Enjoy your stay or visit here. We love having you all here at the Rock Capital of the World, Quartzsite. Everyone, join your neighbors, friends and others you meet. There are so many neat people and events coming up like the Hi Jolly Parade (starting at Noon this Saturday) ending up at Town Park with plenty to eat, drink and simply be merry. Look here in the Desert Messenger and at all of the bulletin boards around town to see schedules of events for the rest of the season. By the way, we en- courage and invite our new winter friends to get involved, help out and give us fresh ideas, come to our meetings, write or talk to us. Happy New Year! Feliz Año Nuevo!
