Field of Honor Opens at ASOM
On Saturday, May 16, the Airborne and Special Operations
Museum hosted the opening ceremony for the Field of Honor.
During the ceremony, 10 flags were placed in honor of a group
of select veterans Sponsored by the ASOM and the Downtown
Alliance, the event featured music by the U.S. Ground Forces Band,
and brought together many members of the community including
the Fayetteville Independent Light Infantry, Rolling Thunder
and was emceed by Mac Edwards of Beasley Broadcasting. Also
participating in the ceremony were: Mayor Nat Robertson and
Maj. Gen. James B. Linder, the commander of the U.S. Army John F.
Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School.
Clockwise: Maj. Gen. James B. Linder was the guest speaker;
Bruce Dawes, of the FILI, directed the presentation of the
colors; Staff Sgt. Alonzo Lunsford, who was injured during the
Fort Hood shooting was one of 10 soldiers honored; and Paula
Garcia was honored as a Gold Star Mother.
