You don't need to wait until the 31st to start enjoying the ghoulish good time. The entire month is filled with opportunities to enjoy the fall, haunted histories and many creative interpretations of Halloween fun both family- friendly and adults-only. For a family-friendly day of fall fun, Canady Farm Corn Maze and Wagon Ride is the place to go. They have a twisting turning corn maze, wagon rides, farm animals and a nature trail to truly enjoy the fall season and learn a little about nature along the way. The farm is located at 1426 John Mcmillan Road. Canady Farm is open from Oct. 1 to Nov 7, Fridays from 4 to 6p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. While you are in Grays Creek, you can also drop by Gallberry Farms. The owners have cultivated a massive and beautiful six-acre corn maze this year. Other attractions include farm animals, campfires, mini mazes made of hay bales for the younger maze explorers, a hay ride and much more. The maze is open from Sept. 13 to Nov. 2. Admission covers all activities, including the hayride. Hubb's Farm is a wonderland of fall celebrations. The main attraction is of course the corn mazes. They have four different maze options that are made even more challenging by 12 checkpoints within the mazes with unique hole punchers. There is also a separate haunted trail, for the bravest of the maze explorers, that acts as a fundraiser for local non- profit groups. Hubbs is open from Sept. 13 to Nov. 1 weekends only. This year marks the 7th Annual Fort Bragg Volksmarch. A Volksmarch (People's March) is a German tradition of noncompetitive walking. In addition to the walk there is German Cuisine for sale, live entertainment, a dog costume contest, hayrides, pumpkin decorating and pie eating contest. This German-inspired celebration of fall is taking place on Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Smith Lake. Started in Miami Beach, Florida, the Halloween Half Marathon is a unique and incredibly entertaining way to combine the joys of running and wearing costumes. Besides the run, there isa health screening, fitness speakers, costume awards, pumpkin carving competition, giveaways, a free kids race, a fitness fair, and fun games for all ages all beginning at midday. The marathon and 5K will begin at 4 p.m. Registration for the half marathon is $65, the 5K is $30, and the kids run is $5. The races are taking place on Nov. 1 in Spring Lake at 245 Ruth St. All participants are encouraged to run in their best costumes! This year the Dogwood Fall Festival will also embrace the Halloween spirit. Oct. 23 -25 there will be several events centered in Festival Park. Budlight will host the Boo and Brew each night from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. Participants are invited to enjoy the crisp fall air and their favorite domestic North Carolina craft beers. The Lafayette Insane Asylum will open from 6 until 11 p.m. Festival Park will be transformed into a haunted maze sure to scare even the most fearless thrill seekers. From 6:30 until 9:30 p.m., there is also haunted hayrides departing from Festival Park every 30 minutes. Guides will reveal the haunted past of many of the historic buildings in the area, including a walk through the Cross Creek Cemetery. Friday Oct. 24, as part of the 4th Friday celebration, the Downtown Alliance and The Rock Shop will host the annual Zombie Walk. The walk takes place down Hay Street and begins at 7 p.m. For more information, visit http://www.faydta.org/events/. After the walk, there is live entertainment and shopping as part of 4th Friday. Another staple on the Fayetteville Halloween scene is the Stoney Point Trail of Terror. Tickets are $15 and proceeds benefit the fire station directly; the trail is their annual fundraiser. The trail is open from 8 until 11 p.m. on Sept. 26 and 27, Oct. 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, 30, 31 and Nov. 1. For more information, visit www.stoneypointrailofterror.com or call 910-424-0694. The Trail is not recommended for children under 13. The trail is located at 7221 Stoney Point Rd. The Vander Haunted Trail is not for the inexperienced. General admission is $15. Fridays and Saturdays the trail is open from 10 p.m. until midnight. On Sundays the trail operates from 7:30 until 9:30 p.m. The trail opened Oct. 3. For the entire month of October, The Poe House is decorated for Halloween in the traditional Victorian manner. To further get into the historically accurate Halloween spirit the Poe House will have special tours sponsored by the Arts Council with Gilbert Theatre actors as members of the Poe household as they prepare for Halloween night. Tours will run every 20 minutes beginning at 6 p.m. on Oct. 17, 18, 24 and 25. Tickets are $3 and must be purchased at the door. On Oct. 25, the annual Poe House Trick or Treat is occurring. This is a family-oriented event that includes candy, a costume contest, scavenger hunt and traditional Halloween-themed carnival games, concessions and more. The Poe House is located at 206 Bradford Ave. The Hallow's Eve Cemetery Walk provides a deeper look into the surprisingly dark and curious history of the area. Fayetteville City Historian Bruce Daws will guide participants through the Cross Creek Cemetery and tell the terrifying tales of local murders and strange residents. The proceeds from this event will help to restore the vandalized headstones of Cross Creek Cemetery.
