Following the games, the County went 0-3 over the weekend. Two games were close this past weekend and there are two favorable matchups this upcoming Friday (10/3/14). In Georgia, Thomas Jefferson (3-2) gave Rabun Gap all they could handle, but three turnovers ruined a chance at victory, falling 37-24. The Gryphons put up nearly 400 yards offense as Bradley Freels threw for 284 yards and a touchdown. The Gryphons will host Highland Tech this coming week. Highland Tech (0-5) has been held scoreless in four fi ve contest so far this season. East Rutherford (3-2, 1-1) has the night off last Friday, but will host Burns (2-3, 2-1). They have the game of the week as the two old rivals duke it out on the football fi eld. Burns will showcase two rushers in A.J. Camp and quarterback Cameron Barbee. The Cavs have scored 24 points in four of their fi ve games so far this season, while Burns has scored 20 points or more just twice in fi ve games this season. Meanwhile, R-S Central (3-3, 1-2) goes on a bye this weekend, but not without a tough loss to think about. As expected, Crest was too much and forced the Hilltoppers into a 47-12 loss. They will return to the fi eld on 10/10/14 when they host Chase. Chase (1-5, 0-3) had the closest contest, but fell 3-0 at Draughn in the fi nal seconds. The Trojans had their chances, but tough penalties and young mistakes disallowed them to take their second win of the year. They will host a red-hot and very talented Crest on Friday. Thomas Jefferson soccer is now 6-0, 2-0 on the year, but they have the bulk of their schedule coming up. Grant Hernandez has scored a goal in each of the last three games and Mathias Talbert has posted six during that same stretch. Chase soccer (9-2-1, 8-1) is still doing well, but lost last week to Shelby and sit a game back of the SMAC lead. Jonathan Jimenez scored twice in their most recent 8-1 victory over Draughn. NASCAR is trying their altered version of the playoffs as 16 Chase drivers have now been trimmed to 12. Following a win at Dover, Jeff Gordon is still a solid pick for the championship, but I like Brad Keselowski to win Kansas, Jimmie Johnson to take Charlotte and the wild card race ends the second segment of these playoffs at Talladega. Following Talladega, only eight drivers will be eligible for the championship. And fi nally, the Tony Stewart/Kevin Ward Jr. issue is for the most part over with in general. Following a toxicology report, Ward had enough marijuana in his system to cause impairment. The New York grand jury decided to not hear the case following that revelation. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a wrongful death suit fi led against Stewart by the Ward family. Stewart was able to break his silence and said that it was 100 percent an accident. I believe that. It's time for both families to move on. Too much has already been lost in this horrible incident.
