A 3, 2011 Paw Power Animal Shelter to close Oct. 1 Dear members of the community, It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the closure of the Paw Power Animal Shelter ef- fective 1 October, 2011. Willpower Incorporated can no longer absorb the cost to continued shelter op- erations as well as absorb the costs to start, build and operate a new shelter at the north end of Quartz- site. At the heart of the matter is the cost ($23,000) to complete the environmental assessment (EA) study which is mandated by the Bu- reau of Land Management. Please do not interpret the closure of the shelter as a failure to complete its’ mission, but rather an emphatic declaration of need. During the shelter’s eighteen .DM. Hi Jolly Cemetery Save the dates Oct. 1 & Oct. 29 By Dinice Ross We are looking forward to October - it will be a busy month for the Cem- etery. October 1st will be our Plant sale and October 29th will be a Spirit Walk, both sponsored by the Cemetery Board. We are taking donations of plants to month existence it took in one hundred sixty animals that were abandoned, abused or no longer wanted. The animals came from all segments of the community in- cluding the Quartzsite Police De- partment and as far away as Lake Havasu City. Additionally, twelve other animals were immunized and altered at a greatly reduced cost to the mem- bers of the community. The num- ber of animals that passed through the shelter gates demonstrates the real need for such a Facility and an animal control offi cer in the Quartzsite area. Last, I would like to thank those who contributed to the success of the Shelter. At the top of the list is Ms. Patty Patton. Her passion and love for the animals made it all possible. She and her team of volunteers raised the shelter from a dirt fi eld to its current confi guration in a matter of weeks. All completed with no monetary support from the state, county or local township. Thank you to members of the community that gave generously their time, money and materials in order that the abandoned animals of the community would have shel- ter, medical care and food. Your efforts will not be forgotten and you will always be in our hearts and prayers. Roger D. Williams President, Willpower Inc. Sincerely, be put in the plant sale. All plants – cactus, trees, bushes, house plants, ect. can be dropped off at the Bakery and put under the large tree to the right of the Bakery. They will be watered and treated with tender care until the plant sale. So – bring them on. Now, for the Spirit Walk on October 29th. This will be held at the Pioneer Section of Hi Jolly Cemetery and will be a fun, historical walk into the past, with members (“Spirits”) of the com- munity hamming it up at selected gravesites. These players will trans- form themselves into the “Spirits” of Quartzsite’s past fi lling you in on why they came, how they died and what they did in-between. This is to let you know what is com- ing up on our calendar so you can mark those days on your calendar. We will be reminding you again so you won’t forget.
