P��� 8 AWC’s new online course Arizona Western College Introduces New Online Course: Medical Math Yuma, AZ — Arizona Western College (AWC) has a program that makes it easy to take high-quality, noncredit on- line courses. Arizona Western College has partnered with ed2go to offer hun- dreds of online, instructor-led courses and is pleased to announce the launch of “Medical Math.” In this fun and practical course, partic- ipants will gain the medical math skills they need to do anything from calculat- ing dosages to using scientific formulas. Packed with hands-on-activities and real-life examples, the course is ideal for individuals in any medical field who are seeking to enhance their on-the-job math skills. This course is part of AWC’s grow- ing catalog of more than 300 instruc- tor-facilitated online courses. Through well-crafted lessons, expert online in- struction, and interaction with fellow students, participants in these courses gain valuable knowledge at their con- venience. They have the flexibility to study at their own pace combined with ���.D�����M��������.��� enough structure and support to com- plete the course. And they can access the classroom 24/7 from anywhere with an Internet connection. New sessions of each course run every month. They last six weeks, with two new lessons being released weekly (for a total of 12). The courses are entirely Web-based with comprehensive les- sons, quizzes, and assignments. Art Guild updates It is hard to believe we are into August already! This summer is really flying by. Soon we will be welcoming back our winter visitors and renewing friend- ships; this we all look forward to. The Art Guild has been active through- out the summer months, with a variety of new classes by a different member each month. This has not only been a fun ex- periment, but many of us have ventured out into new avenues. Not only a time to experiment with something new but also it freshens our approach into our own selective media. Who would have thought that rock salt would be a base for watercolor flowers, or how about painters tape as a resist in forming perspective trees. Blowing through straws with a fluid watercolor base makes a terrific background mo- tif. We have experimented with making and marbleizing our own paper. And as I have always enjoyed the critiqu- ing of each others work. As the artist, sometimes we are to close to the subject and others can instantly pick up on the smallest details we might have missed. Those two evenings during the long hot summer is a welcome diversion. At the last meeting it was decided that we will not meet during August. Many of the members have other commit- ments and with the election it will give us time to relax and regroup. The next scheduled meeting will be September 1st. You can just show up between noon and 6pm on Thursday, August 4th at the Senior Center. The Town of Quartzsite will hold Election Information a Special Recall Election for the of- fice of Mayor on August 30th, 2011. The polling location is the Quartz- site Senior Center, located on 40 N. Moon Mountain, Quartzsite. The polls open at 6am and close at 7pm. To be eligible to vote, you must be a registered voter and re- side within the Town of Quartzsite for at least 29 days immediately prior to this election. If you wish to vote early, you will be able to cast your vote at the Satellite Voting on Monday, August 15th. Satellite Voting takes place at Town Hall during the hours of 10am-1pm. Cenpatico and the Quartzsite Sub- stance Abuse Prevention Coalition are sponsoring a Community Fun Day at the Park on Saturday, August 13, from 4:30-6:30pm.
