Purple Heart Homes Remodel House for Local Veteran America's most patriotic community honored a seasoned member of our military, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Joe Aguirre, on Aug. 9. Purple Heart Homes held a ceremony to showcase the renovations done to his home. John Gallina, Purple Heart Homes Co-founder, served as the Master of Ceremonies. Representatives from the City and Home Depot were in attendance. "We are honored to help our veterans like Joe Aguirre that fall through the cracks to provide needed home renovations to enable them to have a safe, barrier-free living environment," Gallina said. Renovations included removing walls, widening doorways and putting in a handicap accessible bathroom with a roll-in shower. Staff Sergeant Joe Aguirre, 43, served his country for 20 years from 1988-2008. His service took him on many deployments, including Desert Storm, Kuwait, Bosnia, Panama, Afghanistan and Iraq. Aguirre was injured while on deployment in a parachute jump, where he was thrown into a tree causing a severe concussion. Later the same year while in Korea, he suffered another concussion that resulted in an enlarged cyst that grew on his brain. Aguirre suffers from degenerative disc disease, severe migraines and post-traumatic stress. Aguirre works full-time as a Supply Sergeant at a special warfare center school. Purple Heart Homes (PHHUSA) is a 501 (c)(3) founded by Dale Beatty and Gallina, two Iraq combat wounded veterans that remain on a mission to provide housing solutions to service connected disabled veterans and their families. Driven by the belief that no veteran should be left behind, Purple Heart Homes, together with the community, is committed to ensuring quality of life solutions for disabled American veterans from all eras.
