16 UCW MARCH 26 - APRIL 1, 2014 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM I had the great privilege of spending some time recently with up and coming Christian artist Ellie Holcomb. As a high school teacher and newly married to touring artist Drew Holcomb, Ellie knew something had to give. She wasn't spending enough time with her husband and when he suggested she join his band her first thought was, "I think I'm gonna wonder what this would have been like if I don't try. And so what we thought would be a year-long diversion turned into seven years." Music has always been a big part of Ellie's life and it wasn't long before she began writing songs. They weren't a great fit for the band, so Drew encouraged her to record them herself. With her dad Brown Bannister, a legendary producer dating back to the 1980s, Ellie knew getting a full project produced was a major undertaking. A kickstarter campaign seemed like the best way to raise the necessary funds. The campaign began with a goal of $40,000 and in a few short months more than $100,000 came in! This enabled Ellie and her team to hold nothing back and the album, As Sure As The Sun was released to rave reviews earlier this month. Ellie writes with such vulnerability. About the first radio single, "Broken Beautiful" she said, "God has taken the most broken and messed up parts of my life and brought healing and redemption to those very places. Things that you just think I don't even want anybody to know about and then that's the place he enters in and shows up, and breathes life into. I think that he's maybe the best person we can ever know when we're suffering because he suffered, too. This song is really just a prayer that I would believe that God is able to heal any broken heart and any broken situation because he walked out of a grave." The music, the vocals and the message come together to create a very life-giving listening experience. Ellie Holcomb's As Sure As The Sun is available now wherever you download great Christian music.
