Central Suite #7 Quartzsite For more information call: 928-533-4588 Submitted by Alex Taft, Quartzsite Town Manager The vendors and winter residents are coming back as the snow flies in the north. Many winter residents re- turn year after year to the same RV parks where they reconnect with their winter families. The result is the RV parks often host private Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Also are Ida- ho, Washington, Montana cookouts where many who live in these states get together over the winter season in Quartzsite. The RV parks are places where peo- ple connect to old friendships and new-found ones. It is the sociability of Quartzsite’s winter season that brings people back year after year, often for twenty years or more. The RV parks have always made available their club house where get- togethers and pri- vate parties with old and new friends occur. These friendships are part of what make Quartzsite’s winter season fun. This season, some of the RV parks were told by La Paz County Health De- partment they had to get a commercial kitchen to continue these get-togeth- ers. After meeting with Holly Irwin, La Paz County Supervisor for District 3, it appears there was a misunderstand- ing. The private parties will continue as they always have. D 1, 2010 ‘Tis the Season...friends, visitors, vendors In discussion with the Health and De- velopment Services Board, it has been suggested a Municipal Board be estab- lished to address the issues that occur such as the holiday dinners at the RV parks and vendor related concerns such as weekly visits from the La Paz County Health Inspectors. Sometimes problems grow concerning our winter season that don’t have to, if they are addressed. The Health and Development Servic- es Board will be discussing a potential recommendation at their next meet- ing on December 6 at 4:00 P.M. at the Quartzsite Library meeting room. Municipal board meetings are open to the public. A board created exclusively to address vendor and winter season concerns may make it easier for all of us to deal with the challenges that come up each winter. Show time is such an important as- pect of what Quartzsite is for those who come here to earn a living, to en- joy the weather and the shows and to reconnect with their winter friends. On any given day in January over 100,000 people are here in a Town accustomed to holding 3,500 residents. The Health and Development Ser- vices Board has chosen to address this issue proactively and positively by fo- cusing on what works and how we can keep a positive environment.
