12 www.DesertMessenger.com September 4, 2013 Covenant Lutheran continues to give all year round By Maggie Ross The commitment of Covenant is so strong and reflected in the donations of the Snowbirds who leave their money behind to help in the summer. The community does not realize how much their welfare depends on most of these seniors that are retired.and only here for six months. There are only a few of us who live here year round and take on the assignment of shopping for the food. No one gets paid except with "feel good". We drive to both Yuma and Lake Havasu to shop at the 99 Cent Stores because they give us such great deals and wonderful service. Prices in Quartzsite and nearby communities of Blythe and Parker are too high and we aim to make every dollar count. We try hard not to just buy staples but cookies, drinks and other ����� | M����� ���������� items since families have children and seniors that deserve a treat once in awhile. Jean Braa and her husband Bob share the responsibilty and we take turns for the four months that we shop. We also added Patti $1486 was donated by Covenant Lutheran Church this summer! Hunzicker to our group who was able to help this summer. We are again planning the 3rd annual Community Spaghetti Feed to be held at Isaiah 58 on October 26 from 3pm-6pm. Thrivent Lutheran has given us a grant for $500 to again help with this event. Both previous Spaghetti Feeds raised $1,000+ funds which were split between the Quartzsite Food Bank and Isaiah 58 Project. I am also hoping that when the Congregation returns in October we can continue our food drives as well as help with Thanksgiving meals and Christmas gifts for seniors. It is a joy to help this community. Maggie Ross VOLUNTEERS NEEDED The 3rd Annual Community Spaghetti Feed will be held Sat. Oct. 26th at Isaiah 58 on Moon Mountain Road. We are in need of volunteers who have their food handlers permits, to help prepare and serve meals, and others willing to help with other tasks that will need to be done.
