September 4, 2013 Laughter Yoga comes to Quartzsite Laughter Yoga is here! Yes, you read it right. Laughter Yoga, led by Jean Marcley a certified Laughter Yoga leader, will be holding classes monthly at the Quartzsite Community Center beginning on October 22 at 9 a.m. Laughter Yoga is a unique exercise routine which combines unconditional laughter with yogic breathing (Pranayama). Anyone can laugh without relying on humor, jokes or comedy. These exercises, when combined with the strong social dynamics of group behavior, lead to prolong and hearty unconditional laughter. Laughter exercises are interspersed with breathing exercises. Scientifically it has been proved that twenty minutes of laughter is sufficient to develop full physiological benefits. Imagine that, only twenty minutes of laughter and you get so many ben- AA Meetings QUARTZSITE, AZ Don 907-440-6419 Monday & Thursday 5:30pm Local Survivors Group 375 Sunrise St. Wednesday & Friday 5:30pm No Name Group 103 Moon Mountain (Winter only) Monday & Wednesday 10am Keep It Simple Group 103 Moon Mountain (Winter only) Friday 10am 12 x 12 Book Study 103 Moon Mountain (Winter only) BRENDA, AZ Tuesday & Saturday 11am Black Rock RV Park (behind clubhouse) BOUSE, AZ Ted 308-383-7880, Russel 509-998-3301 Thursday 11am Bouse Boozers 27928 S. He wrote a book about it, "Anatomy of an Illness" in which he tells, among other things, how twenty minutes of laughter gave him up to two hours of pain-free sleep. We already know we feel better when we laugh, but did you know that it can actually improve your physiological, psychological, and mental wellbeing? Enhanced sleep, increased "happy" hormones, and aerobic breathing contribute to this feeling of well-being. Jean Marcley, formerly of NY and now living in Brenda, AZ , had been leading stress-management workshops since 1984. You will definitely have fun participating in this class. "We do not get down on the floor or do any Yoga poses," says Jean. "You can stand or sit in a chair or wheelchair – just show up." Here's the season schedule: Tuesday, Oct. 22 - 9am Tuesday, Nov 26 – 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec 17 – 9 a.m. Tuesday, January 14 – 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb 18 – 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 18 – 9 a.m. Call me if you have any questions, 503-313-2840, or email me jmarcley@juno.com and put Laughter Yoga in the subject line. The classes are only $3. Remember…LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE and this is prescription-strength laughter.
