We've seen the focus shift away somewhat from step-by- step, how-to cooking shows, to arrive at the more story-driven food docuseries found on many streamers. Shows such as "Chef's Table" are famous for mesmerizing cinematography that keeps our interest while also presenting a more "big pic- ture" view of the foods we eat — from stories about the people and places behind the ingredi- ents and recipes to the culinary artists who have prepared and perfected it. Of course, National Geo- graphic is synonymous with cin- ematic documentaries that tell powerful stories, and this week, the channel is premiering a new food-focused docuseries that travels far and wide to bring you new food stories. Premiering Tuesday, March 21, the aptly titled "Restaurants at the End of the World" is an in- vitation to travel the world in the company of chef/entrepreneur Kristen Kish, who is on a tele- vised quest to discover the peo- ple and traditions behind the world's most remote restau- rants. Here's the official series de- scription from National Geo- graphic: "Running any success- ful venture takes a certain tenac- ity and grit, but those who set up deep in the wild, cut off from the grid and normal supply lines, are in a class all their own. From lo- cal purveyors, farmers and herd- ers to kitchen crew, managers and chefs, Kristen is going be- hind the scenes to meet the peo- ple, hear the stories and see the day-to-day balancing act re- quired to keep food on the table in the most remote outposts on earth." In the first episode, Kish heads to Panama, where she learns the secrets of trek-to-ta- ble cuisine at Hacienda Mame- cillo, and later helps prepare a meal for Rolando Chamorro, Panama's top chef. Other stops include Norway, Brazil and Maine. If you've watched previous seasons of "Top Chef" (spoiler ahead if you haven't), you know Kish as the winner of Season 10. The author of "Kristen Kish Cooking" also co-hosted Netf- lix's "Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend" and served as the host of Travel Channel's "36 Hours" and TruTV's "Fast Food- ies," so she's no stranger to the kinds of culinary adventures and human-interest stories that ig- nite the viewers' curiosity — and that's what you can expect from "Restaurants at the End of the World."
