her more power in her own life. It's everything in the movie and yet it goes further, shows you what Vivian teaches Edward and how Edward teaches Vivian. In the end, Vivian takes care of herself." "She becomes a stronger woman," Barbara agrees. The current tour, which started Aug. 23 in Tulsa, Okla., stars Tony Award nominee Adam Pascal, Roger in the original cast of "Rent," as Edward and rising star Olivia Valli as the charming and charismatic Vivian. 479-443-5600 www.sonamusic.org Tickets On Sale Now! sonamusic.org / 479.443.5600 Symphony of Northwest Arkansas Paul Haas, Music Director Imagine Big Sponsored by Alan & Sherri Lamb and Mary & Dr. George Benjamin Jessica Meyer – Go Big or Go Home Dmitri Shostakovich – Cello Concerto No. 1 Julian Schwarz, cello Modest Mussorgsky – Pictures at an Exhibition OCT 29, 2022 7:30PM Walton Arts Center The 2022-23 Season Continues! SEPTEMBER 18-24, 2022 3X3 Three Minutes, Three Questions Jessica Crouch Jessica Crouch plays Kit Deluca, best friend and confidante to Vivian, in the touring production of "Pretty Woman." She answered three questions for What's Up! on her way to the run at the Walton Arts Center. Q. I understand that you were part of the original Broadway cast for "Pretty Woman," and that you were an understudy for the role of Kit Deluca, and then worked your way up to the cast. Did you always want to play Kit? What appeals to you about her character? A. Way back, when they were auditioning for the workshop of "Pretty Woman," I remember reading the Kit breakdown, hearing her music, and knowing it was in my wheelhouse. I didn't book back then, but I just knew that as the show worked its way to Broadway, I would somehow find my way in (a reminder to never give up on yourself!) Kit is such a strong and resilient woman who has gone through some tough times, but she still knows how to have fun, and I love how she has this tender side to her, especially when it comes to her best friend, Vivian. You don't always see women supporting women like that. She's got some of the most iconic one liners in the movie so there's this added pressure every night to live up to the movie, but I also get to bring my own spice to Kit so the audience can fall in love with the character all over again in a new exciting way. It's a fun challenge! Q. What are the benefits of playing a supporting character? What are the challenges? A. I'll say I don't have to work as hard as Olivia (who plays Vivian Ward). That girl never leaves the stage! Q. In what ways do your methods for preparing for a show change from the Broadway run to the multiple-city tour? A. When performing on Broadway in New York, I got to go home, sleep in my own bed, cook in my kitchen, and see and be around my chosen group of friends. On tour, it's a new city and new hotel every week and, even more so after covid, you really are only ever hanging out with your cast/crew. The show schedule is so much more taxing. For the majority of our run on Broadway, we had one afternoon show on Sunday and then didn't have to return to the theatre until Tuesday evening. On tour, we usually have two shows on Sunday, then we are up early to travel to the next city on Monday, and then coming in early Tuesday to get situated to the new theater … so there's rarely ever an actual day off. It can be really taxing on the mind and body, so it's really important to find your routines to give you some resemblance of grounding. — Monica Hooper mhooper@nwaonline.com Jessica Crouch is Kit Deluca (left) and Olivia Valli plays Vivian in "Pretty Woman: The Musical."
