september 18-24, 2022 What's up! 47 try these recipes Tailgate desserts Satisfy everyone's sweet tooth on game day or anytime Chocolate Almond Popcorn Ingredients • 1 cup white sugar • 1 cup light corn syrup • ½ cup butter • ¼ cup cocoa powder • 2 teaspoons salt • 25 cups unsalted popped popcorn • 3 cups roasted salted almonds Directions 1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees F (95 degrees C). 2. Mix together the sugar, corn syrup, butter, cocoa powder, and salt in a saucepan over medium-low heat until the mixture is smooth and begins to simmer. Place the popcorn into a very large bowl, mix with the almonds, and then pour the chocolate syrup over the mixture. Stir until all the popcorn and almonds are coated. Spread the chocolate popcorn out onto several large baking sheets in a single layer. 3. Bake in the preheated oven until thoroughly dry, about 1 hour, stirring every 20 minutes or so to dry all sides of the popped corn. Allow to cool on the sheet, then transfer into sealed containers. Cook's Note Be sure the popcorn mixture is dry before you put it in the container, or else you'll have a mess on your hands! One Oh One Cookies Ingredients • 1 cup white sugar • 1 cup packed brown sugar • 1 cup butter • 1 cup vegetable oil • 1 egg • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar • 3 teaspoons vanilla extract • 1 cup flaked coconut • 1 cup chopped walnuts • 1 cup crisp rice cereal • 1 cup rolled oats • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour • 1 teaspoon salt • 1 teaspoon baking soda Directions 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients until well blended. 2. Drop on greased cookie sheets and bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Makes 8 dozen cookies. Seven Layer Bars Ingredients • ½ cup unsalted butter • 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips • 1 cup butterscotch chips • 1 cup chopped walnuts • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk • 1 1/3 cups shredded coconut Directions 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. 2. Put butter in 13x9-inch baking pan and place in oven until melted. Swirl to coat bottom and sides with butter. 3. Spread graham cracker crumbs evenly over bottom of pan. Layer chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and walnuts over crumbs. Pour condensed milk over walnuts and sprinkle with coconut. 4. Bake in preheated oven until edges are golden brown, about 25 minutes. 5. Cool and cut into 36 bars. Courtesy: allrecipes.com
