August 7 - 13, 2022 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON DISNEY+ "I Am Groot" - Season 1 After stealing the hearts of Mar- vel fans all over the world in the Guardians of the Galaxy fran- chise, Baby Groot is back and ready for his close-up. The new, photorealistic animated series "I Am Groot" premieres on Dis- ney+ Wednesday, Aug. 10. Fol- lowing Groot (voiced once again by Vin Diesel, "F9: The Fast Saga," 2021), who is now a mis- chievous toddler, the series ex- plores his glory days growing up and getting into trouble in the galaxy Andromeda. Across five original shorts, Baby Groot goes on adventures and meets all sorts of new and unusual char- acters. Written and directed by Kristen Lepore ("Hi Stranger," 2016), the series is produced by Marvel Studios and executive producers Kevin Feige ("Black Panther," 2018), James Gunn ("Guardians of the Galaxy," 2014), Louis D'Esposito ("Iron Man," 2008), Victoria Alonso ("Avengers: End Game," 2019) and Brad Winderbaum ("Thor: Love and Thunder," 2022). "Bluey" - Season 3 Get ready for some fun Down Under when Season 3 of the ani- mated preschool series "Bluey" premieres Wednesday, Aug. 10, on Disney+. Full of inexhaustible energy and a lovable spirit, Blue Heeler puppy Bluey gets herself into all kinds of funny and un- predictable situations in her ev- eryday life. Living with her mom, dad and little sister Bingo, Bluey creates elaborate games to turn even the most mundane ac- tivities into a fun adventure. In this new season, Bluey gets her own room, learns about the im- portance of promises, gets some experience in the kitchen, learns some magic tricks, deals with heavy summer rain and so much more. Hailing from Queensland, Australia's Ludo Studio, "Bluey" is written by Joe Brumm ("Causes," 2000) and directed by Richard Jeffery ("Tinga Tinga Tales"), while Daley Pearson ("The Strange Chores"), Libbie Doherty ("Nowhere Boys"), Mi- chael Carrington ("Floogals"), Charlie Aspinwall ("Doodles") and Henrietta Hurford-Jones ("Dog Loves Books") executive produce the show. David Mc- Cormack ("Five Bedrooms") and Melanie Zanetti ("Love and Monsters," 2020) voice star. WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "13: The Musical" (2022) Broadway makes its way to the small screen once more when the film adaptation of Dan Elish, Robert Horn and Jason Robert Brown's 2007 stage musical "13," titled "13: The Musical," makes its premiere on Netflix Friday, Aug. 12. As if handling his par- ents' divorce wasn't enough, 12-year-old Evan Goldman's (Eli Golden, "Hide and Seek," 2021) life is thrown into chaos once more when his mother, Jessica (Debra Messing, "Will & Grace"), moves them from the bright lights of New York City to the sleepy, small town of Walk- erton, Indiana. Navigating a new town and a new school with complicated social circles, Evan throws all of his energy into making his rapidly approaching bar mitzvah the best party ever to win himself some popularity points with his new peers. With the help of his new friends, Pa- trice (new talent Gabriella Uhl) and Archie (newcomer Jonathan Lengel), Evan faces the impossi- ble task of bringing his school's cliques together in time for his celebration. Adapted from the original stage production, "13: The Musical" is directed by Tamra Davis ("Crossroads," 2002). Josh Peck ("Turner & Hooch"), Rhea Perlman ("Cheers"), Peter Hermann ("Younger"), J.D. McCrary ("The Paynes"), Frankie McNel- lis ("Honey Girls," 2021), Khiyla Aynne ("Nightbooks," 2021), Luke Islam ("The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers"), Lindsey Blackwell ("David Makes Man") and Ramon Reed ("Just Roll With It") also star. "Locke & Key" - Season 3 Unlock a third season of magic when the teen fantasy series "Locke & Key" returns to Netflix Tuesday, Aug. 9. After the death of their father, Rendell (Bill Heck, "I'm Your Woman," 2020), siblings Tyler (Connor Jessup, "American Crime"), Kinsey (Emilia Jones, "CODA," 2021) and Bode Locke (Jackson Robert Scott, "It," 2017) moved to their father's mysterious family estate in Massachusetts with their mother, Nina (Darby Stanch- field, "Scandal") in the first sea- son. There they discovered that they are the new keepers of strange, magical keys that un- lock doors, powers and secrets alike. Headed into the new sea- son, the Lockes continue to un- cover even more magic within Keyhouse, a new threat — the most dangerous one yet — looms in town as someone has their own plans for the keys. Based on the comic book series by Joe Hill, Season 3 of this com- ing-of-age mystery about comes from show creators Meredith Averill ("The Haunting of Hill House," 2018), Aron Eli Coleite ("Heroes") and Carlton Cuse ("Lost"). The series also sees Asha Bromfield ("Riverdale"), Leishe Meyboom ("Hudson & Rex"), Liyou Abere ("The Boys"), Sherri Saum ("The Fos- ters") and Kevin Durand ("X- Men Origins: Wolverine," 2009) return to star in the new season. WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "This Fool" - Season 1 Learn to live life for yourself with the new comedy series "This Fool," premiering on Hulu Friday, Aug. 12. Inspired by the life and stand-up comedy routines of series star and co- creator Chris Estrada ("Entre Nos"), "This Fool" is an irrever- ent comedy following the life of Julio Lopez (Estrada), who has a heart of gold and goes out of his way to help everyone but him- self. Thirty years old and still living with his family in South Central Los Angeles, Julio finds any excuse to avoid dealing with his own problems. While working for Hugs Not Thugs, a gang-rehabilitation non-profit, Julio tries to succeed in his stag- nating life but encounters trou- bles in dating, with his family and frequently butts heads with his cousin Luis (Frankie Qui- nones, "Ozzy," 2016), who just got out of prison. Featuring 10 episodes in the series' first sea- son, "This Fool" is directed by Diego Velasco ("The Zero Hour," 2010) and Pat Bishop ("Corporate"), and written by Bishop, Estrada and Matt Inge- bretson and Jake Weisman (both of "Corporate"). The se- ries also stars Michelle Ortiz ("MADtv"), Anna Lamadrid ("Derelict," 2019), Sandra Mar- cela Hernandez ("American Crime Story"), Mia Hunt ("Good Girls"), Julia Vera ("Ele- na of Avalor"), Laura Patalano ("Gentefied"), David Alvarado ("The Trials of Gabriel Fernan- dez"), Jamar Malachai Neigh- bors ("Keanu," 2016) and new talent Cruz Legaspe Garcia.
