july 31-august 6, 2022 What's up! 47 try these recipes Summer sips Refreshing drinks to cool down sizzling days Amy's Lavender Lemonade Ingredients • 1 tray ice cubes • ¼ cup dried lavender • 2 cups boiling water • ¾ cup white sugar • 8 lemons • 5 cups cold water, or as needed Directions 1. Place ice cubes into a 2 quart pitcher. Place the lavender into a bowl, and pour boiling water over it. Allow to steep for about 10 minutes, then strain out the lavender and discard. Mix the sugar into the hot lavender water, then pour into the pitcher with the ice. 2. Squeeze the juice from the lemons into the pitcher, getting as much juice as you can. Top off the pitcher with cold water, and stir. Taste, and adjust lemon juice or sugar if desired. Pour into tall glasses, pull up a lawn chair and a good book, and relax! Cucumber-Honeydew Smoothie Ingredients • 1 cucumber, peeled, seeded and chopped • 2 cups cubed honeydew melon • 2 cups passion fruit juice • 8 sprigs fresh mint, or amount to taste • 2 cups crushed ice Directions 1. Combine cucumber, honeydew melon, passion fruit juice, and ice in a blender. Pull leaves from mint springs and add to blender. Blend mixture until smooth. Pour into tall glasses. Raspberry Iced Tea Ingredients • 1 gallon water • 3 (3 ounce) gallon-size tea bags • 1 cup fresh raspberries • ½ cup white sugar • ½ cup powdered lemonade mix • ice cubes Directions 1. Bring the water to a boil in a large pot, and stir in the tea bags, raspberries, and sugar until the sugar has dissolved. Allow the mixture to steep until the desired level of tea flavor is reached, 3 to 5 minutes; remove tea bags, and stir in the lemonade mix until dissolved. Pour tea into pitchers, and add ice to cool. Cucumber Tea Spritzer Ingredients • 2 cups water • ½ cup white sugar • 2 black tea bags, or more to taste • ice • 1 cucumber, cut into 1/4-inch slices • 5 cups sparkling water, or as needed • 1 lemon Directions 1. Bring water to a boil in a kettle. Pour into a pitcher. Stir in sugar until it dissolves into a syrup. Add tea bags; let steep, about 5 minutes. 2. Fill 5 glasses with ice cubes. Add some cucumber slices. Fill glasses 3/4 full of sparking water. Divide sweet tea evenly among glasses. Squeeze some lemon juice into each drink; stir. Strawberry-Ginger-Mint Lemonade Ingredients • 18 fresh strawberries, stemmed • 1 bunch fresh mint leaves • 2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice • 6 cups water, divided, or more as needed • ¼ cup white sugar • 2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger root, or more to taste Directions 1. Place strawberries, mint, lemon juice, 1 cup water, sugar, and ginger into an electric blender and blend well. 2. Pour into a pitcher, add 5 cups water, and stir well.
