To help relieve the country's on- going formula shortage, the U.S. Military airlifted baby formula from Europe .... But thanks to our European friends, our babies are now ready to chow down on 132 palettes of formula from Zurich, Switzerland. Ooh, and the Swiss formula is the best — it's got those little marshmallows in it. According to a new study, dur- ing the COVID pandemic, a new billionaire was created every 30 hours. Specifically between March 2020 and March 2022, 573 people became new billionaires, including 40 new pharmaceuti- cal billionaires, which is so sad: you know they're just going to blow it all on drugs. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon This year, after a two-year hia- tus, Fleet Week returned to New York City. I love it! What's better than seeing a bunch of Navy SEALs infiltrate the M&Ms store. Of course, [it] kicked off today [May 25] with the parade of ships up the Hudson River. At first, I thought "[Wow,] the mar- keting for 'Top Gun' is insane!" It's National Wine Day. Some people celebrate it by slowly pouring a glass, sniffing and swirling, while others stuck a straw right through the Franzia bag like an alcoholic Capri Sun. The Late Late Show With James Corden According to a new poll, 83% of Americans believe that the Unit- ed States has "gone off the rails." Train terminology: you just know that Biden understands! Researchers have discovered that men who fill their Tinder profile with shirtless pictures are perceived as less competent and more "slutty." As opposed to the men on Tinder wearing shirts who are competent but also slutty. Researchers say that men who pose shirtless [in] pic- tures are more promiscuous. The study was conducted by re- searchers at the University of Jealous Much? Oreo and Ritz have joined forces to create a new, very limited-edi- tion salty snack. They're calling it "very limited," which means "we're pretty sure no one's going to buy this." Oreo cookies com- bined with Ritz crackers, and yes, this will start a three-day Twitter debate over whether this is technically a cracker or a cookie. Jimmy Kimmel Live! A federal judge denied a request made by one of the men charged with taking part [in the Jan. 6 ri- ots]. The guy asked to take a five-day vacation to Cabo while awaiting trial for assaulting a Capitol police officer. This vaca- tion was a prize from his em- ployer, Mallinckrodt Pharma- ceuticals, which is a drug com- pany. That makes sense because anyone who thought a request like that made sense would have to be on drugs. Late Night With Seth Meyers A man in Wisconsin last week celebrated his 50th anniversary of eating a McDonald's Big Mac almost daily and has only missed eight days. That's not bad. Fifty years of Big Macs and only eight heart attacks. The fast-food chain Arby's an- nounced yesterday [May 23] that it will add a hamburger to its menu for the first time in its history. But people don't go to Arby's because they want a burger, they go there because ev- erything else is closed. LATE LAUGHS BY MICHELLE ROSE TV Media 'True' star: After directing episodes of "Orange Is the New Black," "Black Mirror" and "Tales from the Loop," Oscar- winning actress Jodie Foster ("The Silence of the Lambs," 1991) now seems poised to di- rect her attention to a TV act- ing career. Foster is set to star in the fourth season of the HBO an- thology crime series "True De- tective." She will also be credit- ed as one of its executive pro- ducers. This is a big deal because Foster has largely stuck to movies and directing gigs since her breakout role in "Taxi Driver" (1976) — in fact, "True Detective" would give Foster her first series regular role since her days as a child model and actress, when she popped up in episodes of "Mayberry R.F.D.," "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" and "Gunsmoke." "True Detective" has been on pause since Season 3 wrapped in 2019, and it has struggled to match the success of its Emmy- nominated first season led by Matthew McConaughey ("Dal- las Buyers Club," 2013) and Woody Harrelson ("Zom- bieland," 2009). In fact, HBO hadn't officially greenlit Season 4 when Foster's casting was re- vealed (after lengthy negotia- tions, according to The Holly- wood Reporter). Still, the ac- tress/director's star power all but guarantees we'll see a fourth season, currently titled "True Detective: Night Country.""Night Country" doesn't have a premiere date just yet, but HBO has released an official synopsis: "When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men that oper- ate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, detectives Liz Danvers [played by Foster] and Evangeline Navarro [uncast as of writing] will have to con- front the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice." 'Handmaid's' Exit: After four seasons on the show, ac- tress Alexis Bledel is stepping away from "The Handmaid's Tale." In a statement, Bledel ex- plained: "After much thought, I felt I had to step away from 'The Handmaid's Tale' at this time. I am forever grateful to [showrun- ner] Bruce Miller for writing such truthful and resonant scenes for Emily, and to Hulu, MGM [and] the cast and crew for their support." The former "Gilmore Girls" actress has appeared in all four seasons of Hulu's adaptation of Margaret Atwood's bestselling novel. Bledel's portrayal of Emi- ly/Ofglen won her an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in 2017; she also earned a nomina- tion for Outstanding Supporting Actress for the second season and Guest Actress nods for sea- sons 3 and 4. Bledel's filmography on IMDb suggests the actress doesn't have a lot of other proj- ects currently in the pipeline, beyond a possible third install- ment of "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants." Fans are un- doubtedly looking forward to her next project. In the mean- time, they're disappointed to see her character go. Emily/Bledel was last seen in the Season 4 finale, when the character banded with June (Elisabeth Moss, "The Invisible Man," 2020) and other escaped handmaids to exact vengeance on Gilead. No word on whether Bledel filmed anything before announcing her departure, but it's possible, given that Season 5 began filming in Toronto earlier this year and is scheduled to wrap this month. Expect to see it land on the streamer later this year. Lost 'Power': Amazon Prime Video's upcoming thriller series "The Power" has lost its two leads: Leslie Mann ("This Is 40," 2012) and Tim Robbins ("Castle Rock"). Based on the 2016 sci-fi novel by Naomi Alderman and direct- ed by Emmy winner Reed Mora- no ("The Handmaid's Tale"), "The Power" imagines the shift- ing power dynamic that ensues after teenage girls suddenly de- velop the power to electrocute people at will — an ability that later emerges in older women, too. An initial run of 10 episodes, which will feature characters and locations around the world, was greenlit in February 2019, and for its first season, the series boasted an all-female writers' room. Casting-wise, the globe-span- ning project didn't have much trouble attracting some familiar faces, with Mann being one of the first to board the series in October 2019. In what would have been her first live-action TV role as a series regular since 1994's "Birdland," Mann had been cast as Margot Cleary-Lo- pez, a mother of three and the mayor of Seattle. John Leguizamo ("Encanto," 2021) was tapped to star as Mar- got's husband, while Rainn Wil- son ("The Office") was set to play the role of Daniel Dandon, the governor, who is always at odds with Mann's character. Production was delayed early on when a planned shoot in Georgia was dropped over the "heartbeat" bill.
