T8 WHATS UP! April 17 - 23, 2022 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "Russian Doll" - Season 2 Get sucked into the Primetime Emmy-winning dramedy "Rus- sian Doll" all over again (… and again, and again) when the se- ries debuts its second season on Wednesday, April 20, on Netflix. Created by Natasha Lyonne ("Orange Is the New Black"), Leslie Headland ("Single Drink Female") and Amy Poehler ("Parks and Recreation"), Sea- son 1 found Nadia Vulvokov (Ly- onne) trapped in a time loop in New York City on the night of her birthday. As she dies and is forced to relive the day over and over again, she attempts to fig- ure out what is happening to her and meets another man, Alan (Charlie Barnett, "Ordinary Joe"), experiencing the exact same thing. The second season picks back up four years after (spoiler) Nadia and Alan escape the time loop together, as the pair discovers an unexpected time portal in a notorious Man- hattan location. The more they delve into their pasts, the quick- er they realize they've made a huge mistake and have to find a way out together ... again. Direct- ed by Headland, Lyonne and Ja- mie Babbit ("Silicon Valley"), the series is also written by Headland, Lyonne, Poehler and Allison Silverman ("The Colbert Report"). Greta Lee ("The Morning Show"), Rebecca Hen- derson ("Inventing Anna"), Ákos Orosz ("Son of Saul," 2015), Annie Murphy ("Schitt's Creek"), Sharlto Copley ("Dis- trict 9," 2009), Ilona McCrea ("Dear Kate," 2016) also star in Season 2. WHAT'S NEW ON HBO MAX "The Flight Attendant" - Season 2 The intrigue continues with Season 2 of "The Flight Atten- dant," premiering on HBO Max on Thursday, April 21. Kaley Cuoco ("The Big Bang Theory") stars as Cassie Bowden, a flight attendant and alcoholic. While Season 1 found Cassie embroiled in a murder case that she can't remember anything about, Sea- son 2 finds Cassie sober and liv- ing her best life in Los Angeles. While still working as a flight at- tendant and making better, healthier choices for herself, Cassie now also just so happens to be moonlighting as a CIA as- set in her spare time. When an overseas mission leads her to witness another murder, Cassie is thrust back into the wild and mysterious world of internation- al crime. Created and written by Steve Yockey ("Supernatural") the series is directed by Silver Tree ("You"), Jennifer Phang ("Foundation") and Pete Chat- mon ("Black-ish"). Zosia Mamet ("The Kids Are All Right," 2010), T.R. Knight ("Grey's Anatomy"), Rosie Perez ("Untamed Heart," 1993), Griffin Matthews ("Dear White People"), Yasha Jackson ("Blue Bloods"), Audrey Grace Marshall ("The Girl Who Got Away," 2021), Deniz Akdeniz ("Siren"), Sharon Stone ("Basic Instinct," 1992), Alanna Ubach ("Eurphoria"), Cheryl Hines ("Curb Your Enthusiasm") and Jessie Ennis ("Mythic Quest") also star in the series. WHAT'S NEW ON DISNEY+ "The Biggest Little Farm: The Return" (2022) Celebrate Earth Day with Disney+'s new half-hour special "The Biggest Little Farm: The Return," premiering on the plat- form on Friday, April 22. Based on the award-winning 2018 doc- umentary "The Biggest Little Farm," this new special from Na- tional Geographic catches up with John and Molly Chester, who traded in their urban Los Angeles lives for a barren farm in Ventura County, California. Now 10 years into their journey to live sustainable lives that work in harmony with nature, farmers John and Molly contin- ue to transform the astounding 200-acre property into a work- ing farm that reflects the beauty of the planet's biodiversity. While learning about how the farmers maximize biodiversity and regeneratively grow the most nutrient-dense foods pos- sible, this heartwarming special also features tons of cuddly ani- mals, including Emma the pig and her piglets, and an adorable lamb named Moe. Directed and executive produced by J. Ches- ter, the special also comes from executive producers Erica Mess- er ("Criminal Minds") and San- dra Keats ("Eating Animals," 2017). WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME "A Very British Scandal" Dive into a juicy true story when "A Very British Scandal" pre- mieres on Prime on Friday, April 22. Exploring the events sur- rounding the notorious divorce of Ian (Paul Bettany, "WandaVi- sion") and Margaret Campbell (Claire Foy, "The Crown"), Duke and Duchess of Argyll, during the 1960s, the three-episode miniseries digs deep into the couple's tumultuous and very public feud. Considered to be one of the more extraordinary and brutal legal cases of the 20th century, the duke and duchess's divorce dominated British tab- loids. While Margaret was ini- tially famed for her style, per- sonality and beauty, the nasty di- vorce proceedings brought forth accusations of forgery, theft, vio- lence, drug use, bribery and more against her. To top it all off, an explicit Polaroid picture was exposed, haunting Margaret for the rest of her life as she was publicly shamed for her per- ceived sexual indiscretions. From Blueprint Productions, the same company that produced "A Very English Scandal," the series is created and written by Sarah Phelps ("Dublin Murders") and directed by Anne Sewitsky ("Happy, Happy," 2010). "A Very British Scandal" also stars Olw- en May ("Coronation Street"), Albertine Kot ("Sundown," 2021), Julia Davis ("Nighty Night"), Richard McCabe ("Not- ting Hill," 1999), Amanda Drew ("Broadchurch"), Richard Goulding ("Me Before You," 2016), Sophia Myles ("Tristan + Isolde," 2006) and new talent Mitchell Robertson. WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "Captive Audience" Get a clue and crack the case when the new true crime docu- series "Captive Audience" pre- mieres on Hulu on Thursday, April 21. Following the life of Steven Stayner and his family, the three-episode miniseries at- tempts to unravel the 50-year history of two brothers, one deemed a villain and the other a hero. Examining the ways in which the media's magnifying glass can frame and affect the real people caught in the narra- tive, "Captive Audience" talks to siblings Ashley and Steven Stayner Jr. to get their family's side of the story. While the sib- lings never knew their famous father, Steven Sr., his harrowing story remains a prominent fea- ture in their lives. Kidnapped in California at the age of 7, Steven was believed to be dead until he made his way back to his family at 14. With a media frenzy grow- ing around the family, what should have been a happy end- ing became a different story en- tirely. Directed by Jessica Dim- mock ("Without," 2011), the se- ries is executive produced by Anthony and Joe Russo ("Aveng- ers: Endgame," 2019), Mike Larocca ("Cherry," 2021), Todd Makurath ("21 Bridges," 2019), Jen Casey ("Extreme Weather," 2016), Nick Gilhool ("Making It"), Peter Rieveschl ("The Amazing Race") and Andrew Ja- cobs ("Son of a Hitman").
