Farmington Faces Tough Schedule FARMINGTON — Not on the schedule this year is Huntsville, which last beat the Cardinals, 28-14, on Sept. 5, 2003, in Mike Adams' first season as head coach at Farmington. The Eagles dropped down to Class 4A with Pea Ridge taking their place in the 5A West making the confer- ence schedule stronger. Farmington coach Mike Adams says the league is as tough as ever and there are no easy nights in the conference. The Cardinals get a bye week Sept. 18 before entering league play. The confer- ence schedule has been revamped for 2020. Farmington will play Harrison on Sept. 25 instead of in the last game of the regular season as had been the case for the last six years. Farmington next plays Vilonia, Morrilton, Clarksville and Greenbrier. The Cardinals play at Pea Ridge, which has a new coach, on Oct. 30 and close out the regular season at Alma on Nov. 6 with hopes to be in the playoff hunt. OFFENSE Quarterback Tate Sutton (6-2, 185) missed the last two seasons with a repeated injury. Speedy senior Ian Cartwright (6-0, 177) battles him for the starting job. Last week Sutton got noticeably better over a three day span despite limited by a "pitch-count" in the number of throws and how far he's allowed to throw in practice. Juniors Myles Harvey (6-0, 165) and Walker McCumber (5-9, 131) deepen the roster. Tailbacks Junior Caden Elsik (5-10, 175) has good speed and strength with ability to make tacklers miss. He will probably get 20 carries a game. Seniors DeCory Thomas (6-2, 165) and Jacob Jay (5-6, 143) press for playing time along with Josh Cartwright (5-9, 145). Fullbacks Senior Terrion Swift (6-0, 225) is among the strongest Cardinals. Class- mate Cade Teague (6-1, 190) and Caleb Matthews (6-0, 215) also play fullback giving the Cardinals power running. Receivers Junior returning starter Devonte Dono- van (6-3, 170) is one of the fastest Cardi- nals (4.6) gifted with soft hands. "We feel like Devonte is the type of guy who's a game-changer. He's got tremendous speed, fastest guy we've had in awhile around here so it's going to encumbered upon us to get the ball in his hands any way we can," Adams said. Senior Collin Hummel (5-10, 160) blocks well. Tate Pickens (5-10, 160) is another junior with great hands. Senior Elliot Thompson (6-0, 175) moved up from JV late last season. Tight end Junior Chase Brown (6-2, 185) saw action primarily in blocking packages last season. He plays leverage and catches the ball well. Matthews and senior James Payne (6-2, 185) fill out the position. Offensive Line Senior Garrett Taylor (6-2, 260) played center starting the last three games of 2019 and slimmed down over the off-sea- son. Taylor squats 500 pounds and bench presses 330. Aggressive, powerful junior Jackson Boudrey (6-1, 244) is rebounding from a knee injury while classmate Deklin Gardenhire (6-2, 230) works his way back from a stress fracture playing baseball over the summer. "Brody Hill (6-1, 260) started for us as a sophomore, didn't play last year as a junior, got away from football for awhile, but really wanted to come back and he's had a great camp," Adams said. "You can't really tell he's missed a year." Junior William Ingraham (5-11, 233) bulked up while maintaining quickness. Smart senior Jared Jowers (6-0, 212) started last year and can play all five positions. Senior Harry Riffel (6-3, 205) has experience. DEFENSE Defensive Line "[Nose guard] Josiah Ingraham (6-0, 295) and his brother William moved here last fall. They had a few snaps every game, but they were kind of behind on knowing what we were doing offensively and defensively," Adams said. "They've worked really hard to get in great shape and increase their strength." William has great quickness for his size and plays defensive end. Swift shifts By Mark Humphrey ENTERPRISE-LEADER MARK HUMPHREY ENTERPRISE-LEADER Farmington junior Caden Elsik (5-10, 175) will probably get 20 carries a game this season. He has good speed.
