M 5, 2010 D M from the mayor’s desk By Wes Huntley I have just received notification from Logan Simpson Design regarding State Route 95, Quartzsite Beautification. This project will be a beautification of Hwy 95 from Main Street to mile post 110.09 at the Scadden Wash Bridge just north of Center Street. This project will have shade tree landscaping on both sides of Hwy 95 which will consist of low-water use trees and manually operated water valves. The trees will be approximately 50 feet apart and will have trash receptacles, benches and cycle racks. The trees will be nursery grown. The use of decomposed granite will be used to provide a finished appearance and will help to eliminate dust and erosion. The project Assessment will be paid for with State Funds. Design and Construction will be paid for with 94.3& Federal Enhance- ment funds and 5.7% State funds. Funding for this PA will be 100% State funds. ADOT is the sponsor for this project and will provide project management and construction administration. The total probable cost estimate is $379,804. Fed- eral funds approved for this project are $403,883.00 This will be a very nice addition for our Town and we should all be excited and grateful for ADOT getting this program go- ing. This project will be let out for bids in the very near future as they have listed con- struction will be in the Fiscal year 2010. On another note, one of our Councilper- sons, Mr. Lukkason has donated a large metal cover which was located at the front of his business, the laundry, to Willpower for the animal Shelter which is located at Paloverde Disposal. We owe Mr. Beers a great debt of gratitude for letting us use a portion of his property for our Animal Control Shelter. On another note, I am pleased to an- nounce that our Park Board has seen fit to give their permission to let a concession stand be erected at our Baseball field. That will be a great addition for our youngsters to partake of during athletic functions. There will be no cost to the Town as this project is entirely paid for by donated funds from some of our bonofide citizens. I contacted the Builder that will handle the Assisted Living complex and was told that H U D is moving along with the project, but, we have no time-line as yet. I guess the Government will eventually get to it. I am happy to announce that with the help of all our Council and I, we have brought the County to enter with us in the repair of Dome Rock Road. That is the section from Kool Kovers to the junction that will be re- done in conjunction with our Town crew led by Emmitt Brinkerhoff. Let us try to guide our Town to better times and let’s plan far ahead for our fu- ture. We have some fine young men and women here in our Town that will be our future. We have to give them a reason to stay and raise their families here with good jobs and decent housing. Thank you and God Bless You— Wes Huntley The driving force behind Mother’s Day was Anna Jarvis, who organized obser- vances in Grafton, W.Va., and Phila- delphia on May 10, 1908. As the annu- al celebration became popular around the country, Jarvis asked members of Congress to set aside a day to honor mothers. She finally succeeded in 1914, when Congress designated the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.
