Academic honors awarded to Antelope students Roberts named to Dean's List Hannah Roberts of Red Bluff was amongst 1,306 students named to Biola University's Spring 2012 Dean's List for academic excellence. Biola students are placed on the Dean's List to honor those with a grade point average of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in twelve of more credit units and whose cumulative grade point average is at least a 3.2. This past spring, 33 percent of Biola students achieved this academic goal. "Inclusion on the Biola Dean's List is an indication that this student is performing exceptionally well in a rigorous academic program," said Patricia Pike, vice provost for undergraduate education. "Our Dean's List students are bright, motivated, engaged, competent, and personable. They are already demonstrating the characteristics of success that results from applied intelligence and that will support future endeavors in society, community, career, and family life." Biola's grade point average requirement for the Dean's List is one of the highest among Southern California Christian universities. For more information, visit www.biola.edu or call (562) 777 – 4061. Scholarship deadline SACRAMENTO – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Young Entrepreneur Foundation (YEF) is reminding potential applicants that the scholarship application deadline for the NFIB 2012 Young Entrepreneur Awards is fast approaching. In order to be considered, all applications must be submitted by Monday, Dec. 17. The NFIB Young Entrepreneur program offers nonrenewable scholarships each year, that recognize young people who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and initiative with college scholarships, ranging in value from $1,000 to $10,000. The program was established to raise awareness among the nation's youth of the critical role that private enterprise and entrepreneurship play in the building of America. "Our YEF program has awarded hundreds of students with scholarships that have helped them continue their academic pursuits," said senior manager of YEF Molly Young. "We are looking forward to helping the next generation of entrepreneurs, and encourage any young business-owner or innovator to apply." Applicants for the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards must be graduating high school seniors who are entering their freshman year at an accredited two-or four-year university, college, or vocational institute in the fall of 2013. They must also demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and initiative through having established a business of their own. What do students need to know? • Application materials must be submitted by Dec. 17. • The independent selection committee will review all applications and select semi-finalists. Semi-finalists will be notified by mid-January. • Semi-finalists must be interviewed by an NFIB member, who will be assigned to each semi-finalist. • The Award recipients are selected by an independent scholarship organization. Scholarships are merit-based, not based on financial need. The NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation is committed to educating young people about the critical role of small business and the American free enterprise system. Since 2003, the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation has awarded 2,300 scholarships to graduating high school seniors totaling more than $2.5 million. More information about the YEF scholarship program and past recipients is available here.
